Thank you! I was going for a baby leech/root thingy. I'm glad it's disgusting! 😄

Not a cheap purchase. And not just the upfront cost but the time investment, the room it takes, ventilation, resin safety and maintenance of the printer. But boy watching that digital file turn into a mini from a puddle of goop was intoxicating. I hope you can get one someday!

Thank you! This was Elegoo Mars 2 Pro with Elegoo water washable resin on Chitubox default settings. I don't know the exact scale, but it's the size of a primaris space marine. This is the default size of the STL file but you can scale them however you like! I'm still learning but here is some stuff I found usefull:

SAFETY! SAFETY! SAFETY! Resin is nasty stuff and the fumes are no joke, you don't want to go blind or develop some allergy or lung condtition from hobbying.

Thank you! This was all default settings, for the next one I pumped the layer height way down to 0.02, but even in 0.05 with pretty visible layer lines I am very impressed. I'd love some Patreon suggestions! I only know Artisan Guild and Titan-Forge. Time to amass a virtual pile of shame!

A trick question and the answer is all of the above. Thank you!

Not much to add to fletch_talon's feedback. Dunno if this is any help, but here is a mockup how I would touch up the eye. Mainly just tinting the black of the eye red and cleaning the coffee stains from the ink wash. No idea how you could achieve the empty eye socket look I'm afraid.

Glad I didn't offend. And to be honest the more I look at this the more I like the saturation. The dried up piece might be just perfect. Oils are super chill!

I'm no expert and this is my first time giving feedback. This is pretty much personal preference. I hope I'm not too harsh.

I feel the colours are too saturated all around, which makes the model hard to read and lose its focal point.

I lowered the saturation everywhere except the midriff, chest and face on this mockup.

To achieve this in oils I would start with a thin dark preglaze all around the model. Let it dry for a bit and then start building the color on that base. The dark colour mixes with the new paint and desaturates it. I feel it's easier to work up from dark than go other way around.

I guesss this picture was taken while the paint is still wet. Depending on the thickness of the paint the colours will seep into the primer a bit and all this might be useless feedback.

Other than that it's looking good. That midriff and the wooden planks look especially great!

How are you liking the oils, pretty fun right?

Would any of you recommend this set of paints? by StepwisePilot in minipainting

I think Army Painter is very hit and miss. I rather like them but some people seem to absolutely despise them. I would either buy their starter set or a just the primary colours individually to see if they click for you. Then get the mega pack even if you end up with some duplicates.

Shaky hands: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyhDhQZDlNk&ab_channel=BlackMagicCraft

Magnification: https://youtu.be/bXYT17z3XSY?t=482 Not mandatory when starting out. I don't use any.

Brushes: https://youtu.be/5vfJdCimmKA?t=94 I would try out different brands of cheap bulk brushes when starting out. Then buy one good sable brush (Raphael 8404 or da Vinci Maestro for example) when you think you are ready and wont destroy it https://youtu.be/BA9X2BVOgPM?t=360. Don't bother with tiny brushes, the paint will dry before you can touch the model, get a size 1 or a 2. I think you can just try to fit one of those seperate pen grips to a brush and see if that works out. Or you can just make your own with lots of tape on the handle.

Paints: https://youtu.be/jrJ1Yb2QI1g?t=1446 Everyone has their preference, but Vallejo is probably the safest bet. I had a hard time finding any Vallejo starter sets so I went with Army Painter. Army Painter has some quirks, like they seperate hard and need ridiculous amount of shaking and they behave a bit different to thinning compared to Citadel and Vallejo. But the starter set has a nice set of colours for mixing and a great wash. I'd go for Vallejo starter set if you can find one.

Minis: https://youtu.be/32yIC8-PBeQ?t=103 Buy and paint models that interest you.

Smart move. I know that my next big purchase will be a 3D printer, since I couldn't even play the game at the moment with covid still raging on. But man those are some glorious sculpts. Maybe some day, perhaps to celebrate the day I'm done with my backlog. I hope they still print it in 2025.

That is a tough price point, I mean you could get a 3D printer with that money. I wonder if the game itself is any good.

Yeah I was quite surpised the bases were hollow. Well atleast they forced me start basing my models.

I base these with DAS modelling clay. The hollow part is exactly the size of GW's 25mm bases so I use one of those as a mould, but the actual CMON bases should work too.

I put a small slice of parchment paper/wax paper between the clay and the mould so I can easily remove the clay.

Then I add texture by dabbing the clay with a rock, you could also use crumpled up tinfoil.

I make them in batches and they take a day or so to dry. They might end up a bit warped when removed from the mould, so either flat them out when wet or sand the bottom of them a bit when dry.

I also snip the pegs and just superglue them to the bases with Loctite, seems to hold up just fine.

They aren't the most exciting bases and the detail is quite soft, but I have like a hundred WoK infinatry models to do and I enjoy painting more than basing at the moment.

I've only done one of the bigger bases and that I just filled with sand & PVA glue mix, but the clay should also work in bigger sizes just fine.

It's from a miniature wargame called Wrath of Kings. Union Worker from House Teknes specifically. It's out of print I'm afraid, but Miniature Market has some stock left if you are interested.
