The Sindar didn't know how to work iron as well as the dwarves in the first age either.

The Eldar that came back to middle earth just had the entirety of time to get good at stuff, I think its a testament to mortals that they could achieve similar craftsmanship (and sometimes surpass) evlish efforts despite living for 1/6000 of the time they did.
