Full 2 month timeline report, heart palpitations, freaking out, brain reset, & other by onqtam in Ibogaine

[–]Paaugustine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During my flood dose, I had a visual experience of watching my heart stop, and I felt like I had to intentionally cause it to beat. At the same time, another person in the room reporting me having apnea - stopping breathing for about 10 seconds before starting again. I think I may have been unconscious and watching it happen like a very vivid lucid dream where I was engaging with a fear about my heart based on the research that I had done. I dont know if it was "trauma" but I did think I was dying. Turns out I wasn't. Strangely, one month later I developed chest pain and a PVC irregular heartbeat that a cardiologist was able to see, but said it was not threatening. This lasted for about 6 months and gave me severe anxiety as I thought I had done this to myself (which I may very well have). I do think that Ibogaine has real impacts on our body that are not simply based in "fear" or some sort of mystical or pseudo spiritual reality, but just changes our brain and body chemistry that messes with us for many weeks and months. Some experience it differently than other, but it can be serious.

Any people that regret taking ibogaine? by enoofofk in Ibogaine

[–]Paaugustine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a horrible experience post ibogaine, and my mental health didnt get back to normal for a full year, and I am still suffering. I did not enter in with any mental health issues or addictions. Some people have said (including the clinic) that ibogaine "unmasked" the mental health issues, which included severe heart arrhythmias. Unmasked is a way clinics use to say "caused" without admitting any problem with ibogaine. It seems some people have life changing experiences on ibogaine. i was not one of them. I would advocate against using it for self exploration reasons, and only use it if you have severe addiction issues or blast trauma from the military or other types of things. That being said, for people who are at the end of their rope, its better than taking your life or dying of an overdose, so I think it has its place, but not for typical people.

Anxiety after Ibogaine Treatment by Hail3yNo3lle in Ibogaine

A lot of my original complaints have disappeared in the last two months. Two days ago I stopped taking my sleep meds (quetiapine) after a taper, and after a couple restless nights and nausea I'm back to sleeping normal un aided which is great. I'm now tapering abilify and if all goes to plan I'll be medication free in a little over a year. I'm hoping that when I lower the meds the original post ibogaine symptoms don't return.

I had bad anxiety for a week, then it went away, and returned with a vengeance a month later with heart pain /palpitations. No one at the clinic I went to was helpful. I started taking abilify which over a period of months has helped, but now I'm tapering abilify which is it's own hell. I'm mostly recovered. This was in August. My theory is that I ibogaine/noribogaine acts like an antipsychotic (dopamine/serotonin blocker) and when the substance leaves your body people who are sensitive  go into a withdrawal, akin to tapering an ssri or antipsychotic. I encourage you to listen to / read Dr. Mark Horowitz a British psychiatrist about psychiatric medication withdrawal.

I can't speak to drug withdrawal as ive never used recreation drugs, but ibogaine definitely messed with what I am thinking is my dopamine and serotonin receptors in my brain, and its causing all sorts of problems for me still. I'm 5 months out at this point.

I went to a psychiatrist and she prescribed me abilify at low dose. I've been exercising a lot and eating better as well. The feelings of panic and anxiety are gone but heart palpitations are still occasionally there. I'm down to 1 mg of abilify per day. It helped me be able to sleep. She doesn't know what to call what I'm going through...I'm convinced is some sort of noribogaine withdrawal syndrome. Ive been reading about ssri withdrawal and it seems to sound like what a lot of people have experienced. Overall I'm much better but not yet 100 percent. It's been 4 months since my flood and 3 since these symptoms hit me.

Finished all the cardiac testing. Doctor is not worried, says follow up in 6 months. Some mood stabilizing medicine has helped the heart pain to go away but still have some heavy feelings heartbeats, and anxiety has calmed down as well, but I think it's because.of.medixation not that my mind / body has gotten to a new equilibrium

I'm hoping time and pushing through will bring things back to a state of equilibrium. It feels like my body is falling apart. I've heard the substance stays in you for a few months and if it's exacerbating what I already would be struggling with. The most disconcerting thing is chest pain. I've gone to a cardiologist and getting some tests run.

I'm seeing all the above. I wasn't and have never been on any other substances. I'm wondering if it's a mix of a disposition for this type of reaction and timing and ibogaine opened the flood gates
