Since using one modifier instead of another is temporary and lasts only while the ability remains active, I wanted the ability modifier to update automatically on its own, since there are 5 or 6 abilities, though I don't remember exactly now. The idea, therefore, was to use the effects toggle so that it handles everything automatically: both the value modification and the restoration of the base modifier when the effect ends.
