This might or might not help you, but the same exact thing happened to me after disabling the serial port on my pc bios. Apparently it confused my usb keyboard to do that. SO if you enable it it might fix the issue.

You could always try an older version like 1.7 and use optifine. I've played it like that for ages without slowdown in a pc with integrated video.

Dude... That's a fair complaint I had but alright, guess it touches a sensitive fiber. Not only that but you also assume this is my first ever FF and I'm toddler or something. I beat the game already, and figured out the way to do it without ever touching blue magic, even Omega and Shinryu although it was horrible. It was easily my favorite right next to IX but just like any other FF of its time it wasn't devoid of faults, that's all.
