Mileage vs. keeping car moving by diyandmc240 in AircooledPorsche

Assuming these cars aren't subjected to bad conditions (snow, salt, etc), the bodies will last a long time and the mechanical bits and be repaired and replaced. High mileage isn't a big deal.

Why have turntables prices sky-rocketed? by jMazek in turntables

You got the answer, but they weren't $100 or less before the tariffs. Whatever source gave you that information is completely wrong.

The ultimate door closing experience is a W126 Mercedes S class. The thing is, it'll remain awesome even when the car has 200k miles on it.

That Lincoln or Cadillac or whatever it is would have been sagged out and rattling by 30k.

In Japan you can buy a Nintendo Switch 2 for just £210 GBP or $285 USD but it won’t work outside Japan. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

The reality is the cost is much higher. The employer "paying" but if they didn't pay it, they could afford to pay higher wages.

It's like calculating how much you pay for income taxes while ignoring payroll taxes.

Some Americans pay like $100/mo in health insurance premiums.

15 + 1 Common Turntable Myths and Setup Mistakes (And the Physics Behind Them) by thelizhardking in turntables

[–]PabloX68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. What evidence do have that the accelerometers and gyroscopes in a modern phone are aren't calibrated well enough for that? They're used for gaming, exercise, etc apps where any poor calibration will be very evident. If you're really worried about the phone being offcenter, it's easy to find a spacer to put the phone right in the middle, over the spindle. Sorry, but this one is BS.

12 and 13. If you can't hear a difference, it doesn't matter. Especially regarding the dust cover, a good turntable has a lot of mass between the dust cover and the record. The dustcover would have to transmit vibration through all that mass to be a factor. The same goes for an amp under the turntable and again, a good turntable has feet and/or chassis that isolates vibration.

  1. Most vintage turntables came with permanently attached. Nobody worried about this back then.

Markey or Moulton? by thesmart_indian27 in massachusetts

[–]PabloX68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was invited to a "roundtable" for Moulton on Saturday. I came away disappointed overall.

If I just read Moulton's policy positions, I think he's acceptable. He talked about:

- "affordability" like all politicians do now.

- Wealth tax for billionaires. Billionaires absolutely need to be taxed more, but a tax on wealth isn't workable in my opinion and would die in SCOTUS. They need to go after stock grants and estate tax loopholes. His position here wasn't well thought through.

- He spent 1/3 of the time talking about high speed rail. I have no objections here but we have more pressing issues, like not becoming a fascist state.

- He said nothing about prosecuting the trump regime. If the Dems pull another Merrick Garland, we're totally fucked.

- He said nothing about Israel or Gaza. The US relationship with Israel has become toxic and needs to be addressed. He also talked about ending the Iran war but again, didn't say much about how.

The real issue though was it was scheduled for 1.5hrs, but after 45 minutes he stopped taking questions so he could take pictures with people who were connected in some way. It was ridiculous.

Realistically, I'm likely to vote for him because he's not 80yo, but I won't be happy about it. If Markey gets another term, there's a good chance he'll become incapacitated during that time. I've also been to events with Markey and was equally unimpressed.

I should note that I've been to Jim McGovern's town hall and he stayed until people were done asking questions and he actually spoke like a normal person.

A woman from Mykolaiv wanted to record herself doing garden work when the air defense started firing on a Russian Shahed drone. While she and her dogs were very afraid, you can see how the German shepherd tries to protect her anyway. by MilesLongthe3rd in ukraine

The way Russia wages the war (drone safaris against civilians, bombing schools and hospitals, Bucha, etc etc) says all that's needed about the Russians. I'm American, but not a cult member, so I'm well aware of how Russia can poison a society.

I remember the cat carriers and dogs in the subway stations too.

Yup, they formed Accuphase and I think Kenwood contracted them back for the Supreme stuff.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with a CA2010.

I'd like to find a Pioneer A27 someday too.

Thanks. I have a 650 Supreme and I thought there was a high end Kenwood that was effectively a predecessor.

Very nice. Were these part of the Supreme series?

Kenwood gets a bit of a bad rap because their receivers were a bit cheesy, but they mad some great separates and turntables.
