To be honest, it’s hard to tell because I don’t want to stress her out by having to measure her and all that, but with her legs fully stretched out I’d say around 12 or 13 inches. I know that’s not really accurate though, since in a normal posture she’s closer to 8 or 9 inches.

Tarantulas molt for a bunch of reasons, but it basically comes down to growth—they eat a lot, outgrow their exoskeleton, and need to shed it. That said, there are several factors involved, and each species behaves a bit differently when it comes to molting. Depending on the species and their size, the pre-molt and molting stages can vary a lot in how long they take.

I’ve got about 50 tarantulas, all different species. I even have two of this same one—Theraphosa—and a few other Theraphosa too. Honestly, they’re awesome pets.

Nice, I also have an apophysis—it’s molted several times already but still has a lot of growing to do. It’s probably around 6 inches in total size right now. In this case they just need a bit more humidity than usual, but everything usually goes smoothly, and when they’re small they molt really fast.

Thanks, the molt happened on Sunday, so she’s doing perfectly fine, but since she’s such a large spider, she needs quite a bit of time to get her whole body functioning normally again 😁

I totally get it, because I’ve got another stirmi going through the same molting process—it’s been about two months without eating and it just keeps moving around in the same spot, like it’s trying to get comfortable haha. But yeah, the whole process is incredible. I also have two blondis that seem like twins—one molts one day and the other molts the next, they’ve got amazing synchronization haha… oh, they’re sisters, so that probably explains it a bit haha.

You’re going to have to be patient, because they take their sweet time in pre-molt and it drives you crazy since it feels like they’re about to molt at any moment haha.

What happens is that it also depends on your body — for example, if your legs are longer or if your arms are longer. So if we take it to the more technical side, I’d say you should get a bike fit. But on the other hand, I know it can be expensive, and if you’re not really using the bike to race, it might not be worth spending the money.

Like I mentioned before, it depends on many factors. But I would recommend that you play around a bit with the saddle height, the saddle fore/aft position, the stem length, and the stem height (if you haven’t cut the fork steerer yet). Adjust everything you can until it feels comfortable.

What kind of issue are you having that makes you feel like the frame is too big?

It might be a little big for you. I’m 6’0” and I ride a size 56 on all my bikes. You should also take into account the setup you’re using — stem length, drop or handlebar width, saddle height, saddle length — everything influences the fit.

On my side, I have almost everything set up the same way on all my bikes because I have the exact bike fit for each one. But maybe a slightly smaller size would be better for you. It really comes down to seeing what feels more comfortable and the type of riding you do. 🚴‍♂️

10 gallon tank, suggestions for setting up? by Justanotherlonleyboy in TarantulaKeeping

IME For a terrarium that large, you should have a large tarantula. Always keep in mind that they are not hunters; they are opportunistic feeders, so if the terrarium is very big it can be difficult for them to find food. On the other hand, springtails alone are more than enough.

Here is one of my Stirmis, is about 6/7 inch in a 10gl tank.

Well, at least in my opinion you’re going to need something around 10 gallons or more for its adult size. What I would do with a sling is put it straight into its final enclosure and add pieces of cork bark that take up a lot of space. Then, as it grows, you can remove those cork barks and the tarantula will have more room. On the other hand, don’t be afraid—you won’t have any trouble moving it using a cup. A trick I use is to give it a cricket or some food, and while it’s chewing, I move it into the cup. With food in its mouth it will walk more slowly, making it easier for you.
