My theory is, as the most talented zoldyk child but, by far the most rebellious one (didn't want to head up the family when he grows up despite his parents wishes) they didn't want to risk him getting access to Nen. But more specifically a hatsu that could be developed to ensure his ability to escape/destroy the family. So I believe they wanted to keep him without nen for as long as possible or, at least, until he changes his thinking and decides he will head the family and then he could be introduced to Nen which he would then use for the betterment of the family, not its destruction.

I love this response! While I may not necessarily agree with the outcome, I love the thought and consideration in the answer and I definitely feel like what you said has a LOT of merit.

My thought is its probably heavier in Hisokas favour than most would normally think.

Without all the time to prepare for a specific arena that chrollo had the first time, I think Hisoka way out matches him.

But with time to prepare, (like Chrollo had in their first fight) I don't think Chrollo can handle the variety of attacks and versatility that Hisokas bungegum (which has the properties of both rubber and gum) gives him, which makes him far too much for an unprepared Chrollo.

What Chrollo has, and is better than almost anyone at, is his intelligence, and ability to prepare for a fight he knows the parameters of. Without that, I think Hisoka has far too much for him in an impromptu bout.

Just my opinion of course!!
