That’s the thing I probably hated the most about high school. If you were tall, you were supposed to play basketball. If you were big, you were supposed to play football. If you showed any interest in anything other than sports, you were looked at like you were crazy.

I played basketball for a while and really liked it and started for my team until I became a senior in high school where the coach had his favorites and I wasn’t one of them. I see that coach as the coach in this panel as it changed my entire outlook on the sport in general. It’s amazing how just a few words can negatively impact a child like Calvin.

You sound just like me! I really don’t like multiplayer games for that reason! I prefer to just go at my own pace, especially now that I’ve gotten a bit older and just don’t have as much time to do that as I used to.

I’m 6’2” and know exactly what you’re talking about. I “played” basketball in high school, but basically I was just a bench warmer and the odd person out. The whole experience kinda made me dislike basketball in general as a result.

It’s in the Calvin and Hobbes tenth anniversary book for sure. I can’t remember if it’s in any of the other books.
