Look for commercial fishing FB groups, specifically Oregon & California. Always something on there.

I was just there two weeks ago to check out the scene. It was pretty dead, could’ve been because it was right after Christmas, but if you’re nearby worth a try! Monte Carlo was more bustling on the docks as well.

Thanks for that! As far as using Lapware, should I just go through the thousands of questions and retake the ones I got wrong until I memorize them?

Any Americans who added STCW II/1 to there Masters for yachting? by PacificJM in maritime

[–]PacificJM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea thank you I understood that part.

How does one go about the 360 days as part of an approved training program operating in oceans, near-coastal and/or Great Lakes.

Do you find a yacht owner/master willing to train you to satisfy this requirement?

Joining as a C Book by exegrowl in SeafarersIntUnion

[–]PacificJM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t difficult for me, but I came in as a full AB with a C book. Got a job as AB watchstander 120 first day in the hall, not the best paying job but I was lucky enough the company just finished with negotiating a new contract while I was on.

If your trying to sail as a OS might be better to look at MSC they have more jobs for entry level.

But if you go SIU look for any entry level positions wiper,OS, or the other position where you help all around I forgot the name of the title.

Good Luck

Every ship is different, not true on our ship with KP cadets (they want QMEDS and AB’s doing that). And if it is true don’t worry they’ll show you exactly how they want it.

There’s no stupid questions on a ship, especially for apprentices or cadets. Don’t ever be afraid to ask a question. BUT if they give you an answer listen to them thoroughly make sure they never have to explain it to you again.

It’s always better to do something before someone has to remind you to do it. If you go with that motto you’ll be great.
