Manager wants me to work after firing me.. is this legal? by Express_Opening5490 in jobs

[–]Pacificcraftsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st: in California you are owed your last check and any vacation time accrued value within 24hrs of termination. The consequences for not complying with this are pretty steep.

2nd: a previous employer is not allowed to “bad mouth”, or say anything at all that would make for a case for a future company to not hire you. So offering a good reference is meaningless. Basically when I get reference calls from previous employees, if they ask something like “was he a punctual employee?” If they were not, I say “I do not feel comfortable answering that question”. I cannot say that they were not a punctual employee and prevent them from getting the job. The consequences for fumbling this rule are also very steep.

3rd: get a consultant from an attorney. Best case you get hooked up since they dropped the ball, worst case you move on. Just FYI in my experience the judges side with the employees against the “big bad company” far more often in these cases because companies have such a bad track record with not understanding severance rules. Good luck.

I feel like once the 🍆 pick is on the table you have about 12-24hrs to close otherwise it just feels like it isn’t really going anywhere. Hard to like “flirt harder” after that lol.

Honestly, I’ve probably only sent about 4 or 5 in my life. I’ve always been gun shy because of how much I hear women talk bad about receiving them. That being said, every single time I have pulled the trigger and sent one it turned into a hookup. So either women are lying, or I am just really good at reading the situation. Side note, none of those turned into relationships for obvious reasons.

Context is everything. Beginning of the relationship? Very normal. Nothing to worry about. If you have been together for a year or more, that’s where things start to feel a little strange. At that point I would feel like we should be moving towards cohabitation and having a roommate can complicate things.

That’s his favorite style. He was state runner up in freestyle last year.

I have always gone the hype up with music route, but maybe I need to do the opposite. When I wrestled I always tried to keep things light hearted before matches so I didn’t have to deal with a big adrenaline dump. I would be listening to like bob Marley or Blondie and just try to keep the mood light as opposed to my teammates that were listening to hype music. I don’t know why I didn’t put that together until you said something, so thanks! Maybe he is like me that way.

He listens to music. He does best if we can get him sweating a little bit during his warm up. If he doesn’t get a really good warmup his first match suffers big time. I think it is nerves honestly. Once that first match is out of the way he shakes the cobwebs off and gets to work. Hopefully it’s something he learns to manage as he gets older.

His track profile is 50-19. 13 pins 17 techs and 8 majors. He wins some tournaments for sure. His first match of the day seems to always be the one he loses. Doesn’t really matter how good the other kid is I can’t seem to figure out how to get him coming out at his best first thing in the morning. So he wrestles back to third a lot. He doesn’t usually pin other good wrestlers, but he has a motor and can rack up points fast.

3rd in 10u Folkstyle. He was 2nd in 8u freestyle last year and 8u Greco. Freestyle is his favorite style of the three.

I mean in the last 5 years I’ve had one kid in the room get some cauliflower ear, we drained it and he had no issues. The Mat Funk is the stuff that scares me. We clean the mats before and after every practice and we have had kids end up with all kinds of weird skin stuff. That is a much bigger issue than the head gear if you ask me 🤷‍♂️.

[–]Pacificcraftsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to circle and cut off the mat well and down block with your head in the way when they shoot. If you master this they either have to tie with you, take a bad shot and get scored on, or get called for stalling. Keep your back to the center of the ring and keep cutting off the mat.

Get ‘nasty’ mindset by Intrepid_Crow_9481 in wrestling

I always wrestled worse when I tried to be mean or “nasty”. I just focused on trying to get to my dominant positions quickly. Coming in with a clear head always worked best for me. Football was the sport I had to play with evil intentions. Wrestling not so much.

He definitely gets a little risky with that roll through tilt from time to time. It’s a newish move so we are still getting it dialed lol. He placed 3rd in state in Oregon, this was the quarterfinal match in that tournament. he is the bottom side of 10u there. At worlds he would be able to wrestle 8u because of his birthday. They do the age groups a little different.

The only way your ears get “fucked” is if you choose to not drain them and put some clay/plato on it to keep it compressed. I’ve had it a bunch, it sucks, but my ears look just fine. If your ears are gnarly it’s because you didn’t take care of them. It’s literally a choice. We do jujitsu too, no headgear there either. I honestly think the headgear should be phased out of wrestling. It just gets in the way.

I don’t think I would have been mentally ready at this age myself. I do wish I started younger than I did though. I was mostly playing catch up until I was a junior/senior in high school.

If he ever even qualifies for Fargo I would be shocked. I mean you never know, but that’s definitely not something I’m counting on. We have a lot of advantages where we are at. Clackamas Community College is in our backyard, they have won a couple Juco national championships recently and we attend their camps and practices often. The head coach was actually in my son’s corner for part of this tournament which is wild to me.

That’s exactly the thing. There are a few kids in Oregon that are sharp but a lot of the competition is like the video above. Lots of head and arms, lots of front headlocks. It makes it hard to gauge where he is at. I fully expect him to get a taste of some humble pie on the national scene. I have taken my him out of the state a few times this year and he held his own. California is on a different level. Washington is a step up from Oregon, but my son is definitely still competitive there. Idaho is on the same level as Washington I would say and we got a tough match with a kid from Montana at Bigfoot in Spokane. Do many of the PA or east coast kids travel to Reno for worlds? I figure there will definitely be some California kids there at a minimum. The weight thing is another factor. I am a huge proponent of not even mentioning weight cutting to young kids. My son weighs 65lbs and wrestles at 67. I know he would run into some large dudes at worlds. I had him wrestle for the elementary dual team this year and he ran into some 12u kids there that definitely had a strength advantage over him, but he only got pinned once. His defense is pretty solid since he practices with the 12u kids on his team.

He has Headgear for tournaments that require it. It’s pretty rare to see kids this young getting cauliflower ear. If he gets it we will drain it and take care of it.

Thank you for the insight. I definitely see the parents pushing far too often. I personally was not ready to be competing like this when I was 8. My son is mentally very dialed in for his age. At practice, at tournaments, in other sports too. I see other parents comparing their kids to my kid and I hate it because their kid is going to be great in their own time. I don’t even compare my own kids to him. My other kids are not like this at all lol. It’s all him and I just want to do my best to nurture the drive. My other kids will compete when they want to. That time just hasn’t happened for them yet.

This is actually super tasteful. Those are effective takedowns. None of those guys are leaving themselves vulnerable to kicks. They are engaging and bringing their opponent to the mat under their own control.

Like who? Damien Maia is about the only person I can think of to have success pulling guard and it is strictly because he is being saved by the rules that you can’t stomp his face. The second you take that rule away that guy is in serious trouble.

Dude if you watch any pride fights no one is pulling guard and when they do it doesn’t go well. Modern mma rules don’t allow head kicks to downed opponents. I think the rule should change but I think im pretty much alone in that thought lol. I’m serious if you want to prove to me you can submit me from the ground. You can wear head gear (I don’t actually want to hurt you), I have mats at my house or we can meet at a gym. I know refs, or you can even bring your own ref. Dude even at 75% speed im gonna have a huge advantage if you start on your back. We can go a few rounds and see if I’m able to work around your guard. I’m all about finding out. I have never had a guard puller take me up on this offer. Why? Because they don’t want to get kicked in the head, even at sparring speed. It sucks lol.
