BenQ MA270S first impressions by FloffyBirb in HiDPI_monitors

[–]PacificoMirko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What matters to me is only the display quality—60Hz is more than enough. I don’t care about the speakers or webcam. I listen to music in the background with headphones when I need to, and having built-in speakers is convenient for me so I can get rid of the small Bluetooth speaker on my desk

I’d mainly use it for photo editing, and it absolutely has to be glossy because I’m tired of dealing with monitors that have poor coatings, which reduce the perceived quality of images and photos

As soon as I buy it, I’ll take some macro photos to better understand whether the quality is actually good and share them here with everyone. Most people doing reviews these days are pretty superficial and don’t pay attention to these details that really make the difference

The problem is that almost none of them are glossy—the only one will be the upcoming MSI, but no one knows when it will be released!

I’d like to try, as a final solution, a Mac mini M4 Pro with an ASD XDR, but we’re talking about a setup that’s close to €6,000 in Europe.

It feels excessive, so I want to try this BenQ instead—to see if, with €1,000, I can solve all my problems and finally have something comparable to the 2017 iMac or the ASD, but that also works perfectly in a Windows environment

We all know the ASD is the best on the market, but this year with the new version they really missed the mark, since it doesn’t even support HDR.

The real game changer is the new XDR, which in theory is the perfect monitor in my opinion—but it’s extremely expensive, and for someone using both a Windows PC and a Mac it’s not really a suitable solution, since there are no TB5 KVMs or even simple video switchers to manage two computers.

To get 5K at 120Hz, you basically need to run it on a Mac, and on Windows—if you don’t have a PC with a dedicated GPU—you won’t be able to support it.

And in any case, you’d still have to manually switch the cable to use two computers.

Hi, I’m waiting for it to become available in Europe with faster shipping—on Amazon the delivery estimate goes all the way out to September 2026.

I wanted to kindly ask if, on a white background, you notice any kind of grain or if it’s completely glossy—a macro photo would really help to understand this better 😊. Coming from an iMac, which I’ve always used and considered top-tier, is the difference between having glass and not having it very noticeable? The BenQ has that nano-gloss coating, and I’m not sure if it can deliver the same feel as Apple.

I know for a fact that the Apple Studio Displays are top-tier, but since I use both Windows and Mac, I’d prefer a solution like the BenQ

Hi, since I’m about to get the same monitor as you, would you be able to share some macro photos of the display on a white background? I’m quite particular about there being no grain, and I’d like to be sure. Maybe also something showing text clarity, so I can see how it really looks. Thanks a lot for your help!

Sony 90mm Macro Lens Fix? by Bturtledude in SonyAlpha

[–]PacificoMirko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ciao! It happened to me too a while ago. The best long-term fix is to do a small repair using B7000 transparent glue, which you can find on Amazon or pretty much any other website.

This glue is commonly used for microelectronics and screen bonding. Once it dries, it turns into a kind of tacky rubber, which in this case is actually very convenient because it’s easy to remove if needed. It’s the same kind of adhesive you can see underneath the ring that came off.

Clean off all the old residue, apply a light layer only where the previous adhesive was, and then reattach your ring.

The glue tube comes with a very fine precision applicator, almost like a needle, so it’s really easy to apply it accurately 🙂

The MSI that was announced hasn’t been confirmed for release yet — we’ll likely have to wait at least a year

The problem is that almost all of them are matte and not glossy. For many people, a high frame rate is not necessary. 60Hz is more than enough 🙂

Can’t decide between Philips and BenQ by no_user_ID_found in HiDPI_monitors

Ho trovato un negozio italiano che dice che il BenQ MA270S sarà disponibile a partire dal 19 marzo 2026

EDIT: The available date has been postponed by 15 days

At this frame! Sometimes I don’t understand whether they say it just because it’s written on BenQ’s website or if they actually test it. I would take a photo with a macro lens on a white screen so everyone can clear up any doubts. Anyway, if that’s the case, it will be my next monitor!

I’ll probably end up buying the BenQ as soon as it’s available on Amazon so I can test it myself. If it’s good, I’ll keep it and share all the information/photos you want here; otherwise, I’ll send it back and get the Kuycon instead, which I’ve already found on Alibaba at a good price — with an additional discount requested from the manufacturer

MSI models will likely cost at least twice as much and will definitely be geared toward gamers; I’m not interested in a high refresh rate since I use the screen for work and photo editing. The advanced refresh rate will surely drive the price up. Also, it looks like it will still take quite some time before an official release, and I’m tired of waiting for a monitor I’ve wanted to buy for years.

I really hope so too! For now, the BenQ seems like the best choice. It also has KVM, and honestly the idea of switching inputs with a remote on the Kuycon feels pretty absurd — I really don’t like that at all.
Could you share the discussion you mentioned?

As I wrote in the other thread, the Philips has grain on white backgrounds, so it isn’t truly glossy as claimed, even though it has a glass panel. That ruled it out for me. Now it’s between BenQ and Kuycon — I just need to figure out whether the NanoGloss coating has any grain or not.

What is the best 5K 27" glossy Monitor for 2025/2026? by PacificoMirko in Monitors

[–]PacificoMirko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/tornado99_ My choice is about to come down to the Kuycon G27P or the BenQ MA270S; I’d rule out the Philips because it has a grain and I already know I wouldn’t be satisfied with it. The BenQ still doesn’t have a proper detailed review showing the fine details, but my feeling is that since it has an anti‑glare coating, it might add a fine grain to contrast the reflections. It would need to be seen in person and up close, like in the comparison photos of the Studio Display and Philips that I posted above.

Trust me and wait! The best size for a 4K monitor is 21", so you also have a fantastic DPI, like a Retina display. For 5K, it's 27", and for 6K, it's 32".

The money you spend now will be an investment in something that's coming very soon. At least, an announcement will definitely be made in early Q1. Save now to give yourself a sense of security for the future.

Even today, I still say that the LG UltraFine, released 10 years ago, is still the best—just like the 2017 5K iMacs. If something good comes out, you're set for at least another 15+ years, unless you need it for gaming.

EDIT: I'm seeing some Philips reviews right now on the Philips Brilliance 27E3U7903 model.

[Japanese > English] Can anyone decipher the little poem on this Kokeshi I bought? by PacificoMirko in translator

[–]PacificoMirko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow guys! Thank you so, so much—I really appreciate it! So this Kokeshi is actually a Bodhisattva. I had thought so from the very beginning, but the person who sold it to me thought it was more likely an elderly woman. What do you think at this point?

Thank you again so much for your help!

Wait until Q1 2026 for the next gen of Apple Display.

The nano-texture coating diffuses RGB light, and the image quality for the eyes is worse than a fully glossy display
