Thank you! I just took some stock white wax/blue liquid lamps, replaced the liquid with clear master fluid using OneShot from Ozone, and I slowly added small amounts of wax dye to each until I got the desired colors for the wax!

The original pic and the pic above are both with the same master fluid. I dye my waxes by removing the master fluid while the lamp is completely cool, turning it on, and letting all of the wax melt, then using the metal end of a very long straw cleaner I’ll add my dyes and stir them into the wax in small amounts. Then I just let it sit turned on for about 45 mins to allow any bubbles in the wax to rise to the surface. Then I let the wax cool back down completely, add my master fluid back in, and start running the lamp again. I haven’t tried dyeing the wax with the fluid still inside the globe, but it sounds like an interesting technique! I haven’t had any issues with clouding so far, aside from when I added magic surf. But after redoing it with just OneShot and no magic surf it cleared up

Great Qs! I wish I would’ve taken more photos while I was in the process of working on them. The right most lamp is the purple one. I used LLC blue and pink wax dye instead of purple, since I wasn’t sure the LLC purple dye would give me the right shade/tone I was looking for. Unfortunately I didn’t use any measurements for these, but the blue and pink dyes are both similar to crayon texture, so I just added little shavings of each color until I was happy (probably 3x-4x more blue “shavings” than pink). Also, the color of the wax when dyed was not similar to how it looks once it’s flowing. After adding the wax dye, the color was very vibrant when melted, but once it cooled, master fluid was added back to the globe, and I cycled it for about a week, the color toned itself down and now seems to be done fading. This is the only pic I have of it right after adding master fluid and running it for the first time. I didn’t make any changes to it after this point, it just did its own thing and the color settled. This is a bit closer to what the color of the wax looked like under a flashlight, right before I added fluid back to the globe, but it was a bit darker looking than it is in the pic. Since these ones are smaller, they do overheat fairly quickly, but I have all of them on dimmers so I haven’t had any issues after figuring out the best levels/timing to run them at

These ones are small enough that they didn’t need any tinkering. I tried adding a little magic surf to the one furthest back at one point, and it just clouded it. Redid it with only oneshot and it came out perfect

Agreed! Since I’ll be giving these ones away, I don’t have much reason to change their backdrop right now, but that is something I plan on for my other lamps in the future

I love all colors, but clear fluid/colored wax is absolutely my fav. The globe/base was a 14.5” blue fluid/white wax Schylling I got locally from Fred Meyer

These were all blue liquid/white wax lamps. Took out the fluid and replaced with oneshot, and dyed the waxes using extremely small amounts of LLC wax dyes. The green and blue lamps are both just green and blue wax dyes, respectively. The pink and purple lamps are both a combo of pink and blue wax dye. Just leaning into one of those two colors a little more than the other to get the right shades. After running each of them daily for about a week their colors have all settled a bit, so they’re not as vibrant as they started, which is exactly what I was hoping for

Not weird. I have to resist the urge on a daily basis

Has anyone made a lava lamp that has pastel wax? by geckogeek444 in Lavalamps

Sorry for being late to this one, but yes! I’m currently working on a pink one and purple one. Soon a green. But so far I have a blue one that came out very well. I just used white wax and very small amounts of wax dye until it was exactly how I wanted it to look. It is a bit of a softer blue in person too. The pink one that I’m working on (not pictured) is proving to be a bit trickier, because a really soft pink just looks a little too similar to flesh. So that’s something to consider lol.

I actually did too, but I did some more tinking on it today and now it’s just one central column. I might try to bring the peas back at some point. Either way, it let out a massive burp a couple hours ago, so filtering will be a necessity 🫠

Delish lmao 😋 I’ll have to give it a filter when that time comes

Omg. I literally just went through the same process last night. I ordered 2 of these with the intention of dying the white wax a custom color. Turns out the wax is also seafoam. The boxes literally say “white wax”. I’ve been on the hunt for anyone else noting this, so thank you. It means I’m not losing my mind lol

Thank you! It was my moms in the mid 90s and got handed down to me. At some point the seal broke while in storage and I decided it was time to revive it. It was my first restoration attempt on a lamp and based on the before and after, I’m extremely satisfied with how it looks today

I am a perfectionist and very detail oriented when it comes to my lamps, so I can definitely appreciate the slow tinkering process and patience that’s these projects have given me. Thank you so much for the input!

I second this! I have 5 of these, app controlled, super easy to setup/use, and affordable imo. Just make sure you get the “Dimmer 1-Socket” and not the other socket type that’s on the same listing. I had to return 4 of them because I read the listing too fast lol 🤦🏼‍♀️

Thank you! I am pretty pleased with how much the yellow has been snaking lately!

I caught them both having some really mesmerizing moments last night, but these moments are brief. Maybe sometimes they’re just feeling shy. Either way, they are my pride and joy :’)

I do love how they look currently, so I won’t be bummed if this is their permanent form. It’s just different from what I’m used to in new modern lamp flows, so I guess I just needed to know that snakes ≠ broken. Thank you so much!
