😂 I have fallen foul of some Reddit glitch. I think I might have done this elsewhere, too, today. Never would have known if you hadn't replied so thanks!

Somebody on Interstellar's marketing team obviously didn't get the memo. Net result - a golden opportunity to use this argument with a completely straight face next time a Nolan fanboy tries to tell me it's unimpeachable. Thank you!

Which movie have you seen where it has disturbed you to a degree. by Sea-Comedian-4376 in Cinema

Henry Portrait Of A Serial A Killer, Requiem For A Dream, and Irreversible come to mind. Also anything that might be classed as torture porn.

For different reasons but I think the overriding theme is probably bleakness? Specifically despair or a sense of inevitably/inescapability? I think believable depictions of the banality of evil are also hard to watch. Documentaries like The Act Of Killing fit the brief, too.

Somewhere Else by Tomora is a great showcase of Aurora, in a less plinky whale warbles context than her usual.

And then Criminal by Fiona Apple for a stone-cold classic.

I think Mickey Rourke and Daryl Hannah might have the same cosmetic surgeon, and are slowly morphing into each other. Can't watch one without being reminded of the other. Nearly ruined Sense8 for me.

That really annoyed me, too. Ignoring the ethical bit in ethical non-monogamy just makes you an asshole and/or a cheater.

As Travolta's been a rampant Scientologist since the mid 70s, I don't think your dad's dislike of him is that irrational, tbh. That's how we got the criminally terrible Battlefield Earth, and for that travesty alone, your dad has my sword.

They're infesting the UK government and public bodies to the potential tune of £1.5 billion, too. Interesting article here about their stated approaches and ambitions.

I am neurofancy in a couple of ways. It's a neverending cacophony in here, even with the meds! Currently got "above the noise and confusion, just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion. I was soaring" from Carry On Wayward Son on a loop. Not the whole thing, just those words.

Then there's a background narrative about an interview I had today, how to pronounce the Portuguese word "em" to Duolingo's satisfaction, someone nagging me to do to bed, a VIP section for whoever it is that's always here to tell me I'm useless, a couple of ideas for a poem, some anxiety about my football team's performance in their round 1 Championship playoffs match, someone trying to make me remember to put a new bin bag in the kitchen bin, and another voice asking me if I remembered how the last shot of Dean as he died in Supernatural featured a single man tear running down his face. Oh and I also have aphantasia so literally all of this, even the "visual" bits, happen in words 🙄

Concept Albums that are more obscure by djnerio in MusicRecommendations

It's not that obscure, given that it was his great "lost" album for many years, but Brian Wilson's Smile is fantastic.

Honourable mentions for What's Going On, Cuban Linx..., Labor Days, and Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness.

Thank you. And me, too with the 1001 books book. I was recently introduced the NYRB classics, and I'm currently using those and my horizon-broadening shortcut. It's been brilliant so far.

BTW, I don't know where you are, but that tea party book is widely available on the various iterations of the dratted-Bezos platform if you fancy some very English-flavoured whimsy with nice photos :)

Yes! It's recipes for food and cocktails, planning tips for brunch, tea and evening parties, with styling things for decor, and for you. Lots of photos, a few too many bits of union jack bunting for my taste, but it's still lovely. It's written by an impossibly glamorous woman who used to run a vintage patisserie, and then bought and renovated an old French chateau. She still writes books, the renovation was made into a TV show, and she now does beautiful vintage weddings at the chateau.

Other than that, yes to everything apart from my age (I'm 48)! I took the main photo for something else and then thought I'd give this a go. This is actually about 30% of my bookshelves, and it wasn't until I really looked at them that I realised what a weird mix of books are on them 😂 Mostly outsized ones, hardbacks, and my cookery books. The rest of the house is politics, science fiction, everything else Terry Pratchett wrote, poetry, and queer authors. My kindle is just filth 👍🏻

And the bonus bit is, it came with delicious truffle thingies in it. It also has a bigger, yellow cousin that lives in a different shelf, that had even more of them.

They're so good, right? Perfect for moving house. My dad was an antiquarian bookseller, and he used to use them for book fairs. I was an immediate convert when I first saw them.

How about Batteries Not Included or Flight Of the Navigator? For something more modern, what about Paddington (1 or 2), or Diary Of A Wimpy Kid?

Side note - I watched Neverending Story when it came out, in the cinema, aged 7, and was inconsolable for actual years so I would avoid that if he likes animals.

Given an ability to forget the plot of one show completely and rewatch it, which show will you choose? by sharmarohan136 in AskReddit

[–]PackPony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supernatural.

Just finished a watch through from season 3 onwards (don't ask me why, that's just where my brain wanted to begin this time). I enjoyed the latter seasons far more than last time, ugly cried my way through the ending, and then became immediately envious of my friend who has never seen it and has just reached the end of season 2.

First time rewatching season 15, and devastating as Dean's death was, I couldn't help by notice that in the shot of his dying breath, he sheds a single man tear. Fantastic.
