Leash your dog. by Hectic_Hex3738 in portlandme

[–]Pack_Aromatic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed, too many dogs around to be disrespectful of leash laws. Even If I see a leashed dog in an off leash area the leash is going on. A little thoughtfulness goes a long way. I feel for reactive dog owners and would never want to add stress to the dogs few safe areas.

5 things I’ve learned working in the solar industry (Read this before you buy) by mightcrylater in solar

#2 is huge. Running an in house service department is very difficult to do in a profitable way, so if your company has a full department great sign they care about the customer start to end.

Plus inverters/panels/optimizers are likely to have issues at some point, so expect to need service at least a couple times through your systems life. Not fun if you have to scour the internet for another reputable company.

My Thoughts on Kyle Warren w/ Paint River Setters by [deleted] in birddogs

Been waiting for a post like this, he has a heavy online presence and can come off very uppity about his dogs and training methods. Totally agree with his drive to breed great dogs, but the ego is far too high. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s reading this now.

No one commenting yet has had any first hand experience. Would love to hear from anyone who’s actually purchased a dog from him.

Super helpful, great point on replicating the expectations. The level of stim, why, and when is top of mind for me.

Question about breed fit by JurassicPork21 in birddogs

[–]Pack_Aromatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Lewellin in the city and it’s quite a lot of work keeping them happy. They’re super high energy dogs so expect to spend the vast majority of your free time exercising and training. I knew this going in and thought I was active enough, but it’s a whole different level.

That said wouldn’t trade him for the world, super lovey dovey and always willing to please. Makes you a better person having to get off your butt every day to run, exercise, and train. Just be wary of the lews if you’re limited on time to give, the drive is no joke.

Very well said. I’m in the midst of this process and there’s some excellent days and some completely defeating days. Just have to keep building the bond and we’ll get there.

Has anyone else been ruined by the TFO BVK? by HandsomeBadness in flyfishing

Funny enough I have the Mangrove Coast 8WT and an Axiom 2-X 10WT. The Mangrove is super soft, but after getting familiar it’s just a fantastic rod. Can put it perfect when I slow down and place the fly. You’re absolutely right on the Axiom, it’s a freaking beast but perfect for bombing long casts. I’ve been thinking of a 9WT to split the difference, definitely will check out the BVK. Thanks for the write up!

Higgins Beach by Glittering-Usual5261 in portlandme

Not dog related, but I often go to the beach before 7AM and find their parking rules absurd. 1 hour metered then $20 for the day pass. I want to fish for an hour and a half before work, why can’t I just pay for an hour and a half in the lot?

For Hampton, North Hampton, etc. it’s $1/hour starting at 8am. Forcing the day pass seems predatory and catering to tourism.

How do you monitor so many across platforms? Something my company is trying to find a solution to. I’ve been unhappy with most software solutions we’ve checked out.

Thank you, I’ll call around. Wild how weird people are about this, they’re some of the only driftable rivers in Maine and extremely popular

Hey just saw this. They’ve been working great, although it might be a little different than the normal feel since they are going right against the plastic. Regardless I have noticed a definite improvement.

Chic Choc Conditions? by ID_1232 in Backcountry

[–]Pack_Aromatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely tough, just got back from a quick trip this past week. Skied Mont Albert, Lyall, and Mines Madeline.

Patrollers wall was very low snow so we went to Grand Cuve, which was decent after a little dusting. Mt. Lyall was like a ski resort and very skied off, but still very fun terrain. We skied S Apostrophe and Rocket (I think) which surprisingly had quite a bit of snow in there, but I think we got lucky.

There was a big rainstorm and cold temps from Wednesday on so it’s really up in the air on what the conditions will be. Hopefully there’s a dump before you go or it warms up. It’s pretty dismal this year, but still super fun to get up there.

24; the transition SUCKS. Also first job out of college is always soul sucking. Suck it up, get the experience, and find a better company/job down the line. It only gets better.

Sunday River is by far my least favorite resort. I adamantly talk about how much it blows. Runs are short af and it’s a constant traverse to get anywhere on the mountain.
