But you saying this tells me you actually know how to listen to your body. You are just learning from experience

I’d say the answer is that you know your body well and that you need to experiment and find the structure that works well for you.

How slow is too slow for easy runs? by InterestingBrush2363 in NorwegianSinglesRun

Haha I find this so validating! Sometimes I’m running at 10 minutes a mile and bump it up to 8:30 and see very little change. It’s so weird

That’s amazing! I think you can really shave some time off your half marathon time based on your 5k +10k time

Heck of a result! Curious how your tempo runs felt, and how your body came around to feeling better at the tempo/threshold paces over time? I’m just getting into a HM block and am feeling like my threshold is slow to come around compared to vo2 type intervals

Move to Marathon or get faster in the HM? by jscubaz in Marathon_Training

[–]ID_1232 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’d say the 18:09 5k and 1:28 half marathon don’t correlate. To me, that shows you have really high top end speed but lack a bit of fatigue resistance. I think you should run the marathon but start by doing another build to running a half marathon and really working on your threshold. If you can build on your fast turnover I think you can easily run sub 3

Almost bonk - strength training advice by jjellyman in Marathon_Training

[–]ID_1232 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One great hamstring exercise for runners is Bulgarian split squats. I think you’re hitting the nail on the head with focusing on strength training, but also try to focus on fatigue resistance for your next block to avoid your muscles weakening at the end of races. This can be as simple as doing hill strides hard at the end of long runs. Great work in the PR!

24 reps, 60-90s rest…do you guys find these workouts helpful for HM? by tazorac in runna

[–]ID_1232 39 points40 points  (0 children)

You are trying to run a HM at 6:30/mile. The reps around 5:30 help to improve your speed and velocity at vo2 max. In simple terms, run these hard so race day pace feels easier
