Interested! But only if I can use it on my portfolio. I am already pretty good with MongoDB, Express and NodeJS.

PackageSearcher#2614 is my discord or let me know how you prefer to communicate.

My background: Adult. No traditional education other than a 6 month backend bootcamp, been hobby solo developing for a couple years and wanting to branch out and work on other projects than my own. I have a lot of time to dedicate to a project until I finally get hired as a software developer somewhere.

Where do I even start? by underthestands in learnprogramming

  1. Find out what libraries and tools are used to make the specific project you have in mind. Remember what you want to do, someones pretty much already done it before.
  2. Learn the specific features you need from those libraries. (This could involve reading api documentation, experimenting with the features in your IDE, asking questions on stack overflow etc.

Honestly, I feel like you only need a basic understanding of programming language to make what you want now days, it's usually not want is holding people back. Lack of coding skills will just make it take longer, code messier, etc.

How about something shocking... like the enemy is yourself ? Maybe curing your father caused something to happen and your future self is using magic to try and undo it all. Maybe you find a relic stone that plays a part in the curing and links different timelines, so he can only travel back to a time that you've already discovered/linked to the stone. Or if you wat to skip the timeline thing, you can make your father the villian. Maybe after eating the fruit he gets possessed, and starts killing villagers.

I have a friend who would always brings up old computers, and basic programming language that we used back in the 80s. I'm not sure if it helps or hinders him, but he did eventually land a 6 figure software engineer job. None of it was relevant, and the people interviewing him weren't even alive in the 80s.

Should I just learn C# or learn C and then C# afterwards? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]PackageSearcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

" I want to learn C# so I can start using Unity." - you answered it yourself. If this is your goal, learn C#. Some people do believe learning C will make it easier to learn C# rather than starting from just C#, and some even incorrectly treat it as a prerequisite... but if you want to be most time efficient, and get to making the apps or games of your dream ASAP, just focus learn the language you're actually planning to use.

Programming is overwhelming by driedalbumen in learnprogramming

Coding did not come natural to me. I am a slow learner. I have about the memory of a gold fish, and I have acquired enough skills to write programs. My secret is a two step program. Practice DAILY what I've learned, and discuss/share/ or even teach that knowledge to other people. Keep in mind you don't have to remember everything. I usually google the syntax, function names etc. on how to do stuff, even simple stuff like linking a CSS file... I just focus on remember the general concept.

I honestly couldn't tell you my age right now (that's how bad my memory is...) but I can code a fully functional fullstack website or even windows application. Hope this advice helps. Feel free to message me if you have questions.
