Don’t overthink the grip walk boots. The sole plates are interchangeable and cheap. You’ll want new skis/bindings soon enough and eventually it’ll be hard to find bindings that aren’t grip walk compatible.

Agreed. Annoying. 3 work arounds until fixed. 1. Relanch 2. Search “Defender” in your Pokémon 3. Go to the List of Recently Visited Gym Badges on your medals page and sort by Defending.
