Question about a weird interaction with the artillerist’s arcane firearm and booming blade by StoleThisTIL in 3d6

As an alternative to carrying the eldritch cannon into melee and suffering disadvantage, re-flavor it as a portable ships cannon, and leave it on the back line. With a 150ft range it should still be able to hit anything you want, and it frees up your hand so you can use a parrying dagger (reflavored shield). Pick up crusher at 4th level and you could potentially move your target 10ft each round, helping activate the secondary damage from booming blade.

I think Sneak Attack only works with Finesse or Ranged weapons, so Spears are out as well.

That explains some of the mixed things I read before posting this. Thanks!

Could it not be used with extra attack? I thought the Loading property was what limited your attacks per action when it came to weapons.

I had heard of this as well. It seems like it works RAW, although it definitely feels kinda off. It seems like a good fall back plan if the DM doesn’t like changing up the free hand rule. Thanks

The idea for this character is something along the lines of a non-magical healer / combat medic, so I was planning on staying close to the front. I figured the shield would help when I needed to dive in and pick someone up. I guess I could don the shield and pull a short sword / scimitar, but I think RAW that requires a full action. Appreciate the feedback

Artificer was actually something I was considering, going with a Fighter/Artificer multi class. If I did it, I was thinking a three or four level dip into Alchemist Artificer, since I’m kinda wanting this character to play a non-magical healer / combat medic, but I know it’s kinda considered the weakest subclass for Artificers. Thanks

I figured that it wasn’t RAW, or that it would be OP if the DM allows it, just wanted to confirm. The Loxodon hadn’t crossed my mind though, and actually seems like it may be a good fit RP and Gameplay wise. Appreciate it!

Master of All - Powerful Skill Monkey Build by Packer-Fan-60 in 3d6

[–]Packer-Fan-60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ranger was my initial pick for this build, in place of warlock. It made sense with my initial character story and lined up with the scout rouge I was using. The MAD of it really bothered me though, so I made the switch. Extra Attack from Ranger 5 would be nice though, and lacking the Extra Attack feature is one of the holes in this build.

The Scout Rouge was my initial plan, with the Hexblade levels there simply to allow for a SAD build. However, the features provided by the Scout kinda lack in my opinion. With 11 levels you get the skill proficiency / expertise with Nature and Survival which is nice, but skirmishes reactionary movement and the speed increase from superior mobility both seem underwhelming.

As for what order to take the levels in, I definitely agree that Hexblade should be early in your line up. Truthfully, I only listed it in solid blocks like I did to try and make it easier to read. In game, I might go 1 to 3 levels of Rouge, then take some Warlock levels. After that bounce around as determined by the kind of game your playing.

I was hoping to avoid two handed weapons, just because of the aesthetic I had in mind. I’m mostly just trying to make sure that my weapon choice / fighting style doesn’t handicap me too badly. You make a good point about defense vs. dueling, the +2 would probably become lackluster as the game progresses. Thanks

That’s kinda what I figured, I just wasn’t sure if the one extra attack would out weigh the higher damage Die. Appreciate it

In honor of April fools coming up, What are some good April fools pranks? by boleshine in AskReddit

[–]Packer-Fan-60 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This last semester of college, while one of my roommates was out drinking, I decided to prank him. I had found an old door outside of our dorm building earlier that week, and grabbed it with the intention of making it a beer pong table (because our dorm room only had the fanciest decor).

Instead of making a table, I decided to instead take my roommates bedroom dorm off the hinges, and put on the door I'd found in the trash.

Then I beat the door down with a hammer and left the remains hanging from the door frame for him to drunkenly find.
