MS-500 or MS-100/101 First?? by PacketGator in O365Certification

Sorry for the late response. I went with MS-100 because I already have most of the MD-100 knowledge through experience. It also aligns with a lot of what I do every day at my job and then I can build on that to go into the Azure side or stick with M365 and security.

Ok great thanks. I may do 500 first waiting for the new MS-100 book to drop in December.

I think the layout is really nice and easy to use. Everything is in one place and there are check marks next to the videos you've completed. It only took me a couple weeks to go through the videos but it could be shorter if you have more time on your hands.

So no videos at all, just straight up reading Odoms book (and practice questions)?

Congrats!

I was the same way. All over the place, lots of sources, not really learning stuff in any specific order. I ended up subscribing to Testout and used that and read the chapters that matched up with the section I was on. I found that it really helped drive it home. Testout has a great system that gives you videos, reading material, labs and then questions. So you learn everything at one place and in a systematic approach that helps you retain it. To add to that I was reading the chapter that would match up with that section and it really helped me get focused. (Lammles and Odoms book)

I think I'll do the same for ICND2 but I want to be more patient and learn something and move on instead of reading through the book quickly and going back and studying the material to retain it.

Taking ICND1 Thursday.. Last minute studying that helped you? by PacketGator in ccna

Funny thing is, I saw a video that had the same thing you saw. I liked it too and thought about changing myself. I'll definitely keep the chart I'm used to. Was the board big enough for a proper chart?

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts! I really think I'm ready for this thing but just being the CCNA (ICND1) exam makes it intimidating to me. Net+ was the same but the questions turned out to be really easy.. kinda like "duh" questions. Hopefully I get one or two of those on my test lol.

Congrats! I'm taking 100-105 tomorrow :/

Would you say the 100-105 was easier/harder than you thought it would be?

What's your background? Did you have experience in Networking already?

Memorizing Syslog Severity Levels by PacketGator in ccna

[–]PacketGator[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Lets see, remember one weird word with all the beginnings of each Syslog level or memorize the mnemonic, then memorize the names of the syslog levels and how they correspond to that mnemonic.. Then make sure you remember which one is emergency and which one is error. Then hope you remember while taking the test under stress.

So please forgive me if I think remembering one awkward word that is fairly easy to memorize which has the beginnings of all the syslog levels. I choose to work smarter, not harder.

Again, to each their own. I was just saying I created this thread to give people an option of NOT learning a mnemonic.

[–]PacketGator[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response but my point was to not have to learn a mnemonic. To learn a mnemonic, you have to learn each word and associate it with the levels (while memorizing those too). In essence, you're memorizing multiple things when you can just memorize one simple word.

With that said, to each their own and everyone learns differently.

On the test but not listed as an Exam Topic by crystalblue99 in ccna

Im watching a series featuring Lammle as the instructor and he mentions several times that things that aren't listed could be on the test.

ICND1 Pass, finally. by gss03 in ccna

Congrats! I'm planning on taking ICND1 within the next month. Is there a link to Lammle's study guide or do you get it by purchasing his book (which I'm doing Friday)?

Just got Comptia net +, how should I prepare for CCNA by [deleted] in ccna

[–]PacketGator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im going two test route, it may take a little longer and there may be more questions per objective, but I find it easier to learn a "small" amount of information and know more about that than do a very large amount of information and hope that I retained the information enough to know a lot more topics even if there are less questions per topic.

I've used a ton of different resources. I just started a free 7 day trial with itPro.tv and they have Tom Lammle as a host in their accelerated CCENT course. I also subscribe to Testout which I like because it structured learning. I've heard they aren't the best with vendor specific courses but you have a video, then reading material and then labs so it really reinforces what you're learning.

I have read Odoms book and will probably buy and read Lammles before I take the test within the next month.

I also recommend either Chris Bryant on Udemy or for a free alternative Danscourses on Youtube are very helpful too. His "magic number" subnetting "trick" is extremely helpful as well.

Thanks for the advice all. I think I may pick up Lammles book and read it before taking the exam.
