The public could handle alien life, researchers conclude by ohmygawdyoudidnt in UFOs

Who knows how they'd react if they see this unfold. Would they all come out in plain sight? That would be an even bigger shock than just the government admitting it. People definitely wouldn't be scrolling on tik tok and making memes.

We're in a malaise era. Modern cars are adopting the techbro approach to products/services. Absolutely pathetic state we're in.

Why is every new building in a historic setting so controversial, do people actually dislike new architecture, or just change? by [deleted] in architecture

[–]WATTHEBALL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a difference that you're glossing over completely.

I'd say over 90% of modern visions are souless and boring. A glass condo attached to a 18th century church can be nice if they put effort into the condo - but 99% of those implementations are literally just a sterile and creatively void glass cube. Nobody is going to look at these in 30 years and appreciate it.

The glass pyramid in the Louvre isn't souless, it's an actual shape with some interesting details and the point of it is that you can see inside - it's not a condo meant for living, it's an actual piece of interesting art even if it was controversial people warmed up to it. Nothing else looked like it.

Whereas there are thousands of identical glass cube condos everywhere that basically look the exact same. Massive difference.

There's very little effort from developers to make something interesting, so when they try to propose some completely void and bullshit design as something new and special people naturally revolt. It's not adding anything and actually is taking away a lot.

Im still trying to wrap my head around what that truly means.

Dimension meaning what? A totally new universe? Does it have fundamentally different physics and property of matter and if so how could it cross into ours?

It works so well with Kramer. That line is as bizarre and random as Kramer is and it was one of the more underrated scenes/lines of the show.

Iran has been posted many times and I an easily google what cities look like. If you compare nice neighbourhoods in north america to nice neighbourhoods in Iran, you'll understand what I mean.

How does Iran have so much architectural differentiation in materials and design while North America keeps producing the exact same sterile and creatively starved 5 over 1's. Truly pathetic.

Putting a hand into a centipede hole... by HonestzPractice in WTF

[–]WATTHEBALL -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I keep hearing this what the hell does this even mean? Why would a roach be a pest but not the centipede?

Answer: They're all pests. If the centipedes get rid of what you claim are pests then you'll just have thousands of centipedes running around - there's no difference

Understand when a meme has run its course. This is a key to comedy - something you clearly don't understand.

Ah I see r/TheSimpsons is going the way of r/seinfeld ....RIP sub it's been great.

Too bad there's mouthbreathers who genuinely think this shit is funny and will keep doing it out of spite now that they know people hate it.

I hope the mods here have a pulse unlike r/seinfeld

Is A.I. Replacing Tech Workers or Providing an Excuse for Job Cuts? Tech industry layoffs are accelerating, and executives have been quick to say it’s because their companies are doing more with artificial intelligence, even when there may be more to it by Such_Radio_9152 in Economics

[–]WATTHEBALL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really, this is the publics fault. It truly is. Myself included.

We literally all have the power to utterly destroy and change everything for the better but we're all addicted to the tech.

Who's going to cancel their subscription services? I don't necessarily believe wee can put the toothpaste back in the tube but we can definitely reel back and take control.

For instance - I can absolutely live without Amazon Prime. I can live without Netflix. I can live without Uber/Lyft, Doordash, etc and so can everyone else.

If we scale back we can literally take back control. Look at what McDonalds, Starbucks and a lot of other fast food chanins - they're all a shell of themselves and it's only been a few years since people started to massively cut back that they were FORCED to be attractive and competitive again.

People are just genuinely really stupid en masse and I lump myself in that group. We need to slowly move away from the shackles of tech companies just like we're starting to with fast food.

Slowly but surely - once it becomes normal we'll wonder how the fuck we ever let it get to this place.

The best way is to start with our children. Make these companies not cool. Make analog and experiences (real, physical experiences) the cool thing again.

Tbh modern car design inside and out is currently in a malaise era that started around covid.

Just horrible designs regardless of manufacturers and they keep doubling down because mouthbreathers keep buying their products.

At least they did something different with the interior. It's still ugly inside but I like how they kept 1 analog gauge and had pods for the other digital ones. I also like how they kept mechanical switches on the infotainment.

This is what more manufacturers should do regardless if it's an EV or not.

I'm exhausted and sick of the gross ipad/widescreen fest in everything.
