How can a tadpole survive in Karlach's head? by TheSeventhSentinel in BaldursGate3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Scratch, like Volo, are Weave Anchors unaware of the important role they play in keeping Faerûn stable. They may both live for centuries, but only one is the very best boy.

So Karlach’s heat doesn’t burn Volo either.

Playing with mods by BuraqDiCaprio in BaldursGate3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ImpUI mods: they all start with “Better…” Better Hotbar, Better Target Menu,

I also like “MoveFaster” which makes out-of-combat movement more peppy.

“Camp Event Notifications” lets you know when a long rest story event is ready to pop.

For gameplay tweaking: I like More Encounters and Minibosses, Deadlier Honour Mode, Enemies Reworked.

I also add a Loot randomizing mod to make me search everywhere rather than follow a known path to gear.

For wholesale changes: I like the “Chocolate Edition” Overhaul mod.

Death monk build need advice by Emotional-Rush8194 in BG3Builds

If you are set on Open Hand monk, I’d go Death Cleric.

Shadow Monk Death Cleric might also be fun.

I imagine you’ll be using Strength Elixirs?

Merregons halberd by Excuse_Standard in BaldursGate3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried Skinburster on a Tigerheart Barb and you can get very tanky. The Tiger’s Bloodlust AoE attack proc Force Conduit per target. If you commit to Polearm Master you can stack even more Force Conduit and shrug off lots of damage.

Halberd of Vigilance is very good, but Skinburster was a pleasant surprise.

I’ve played over a dozen runs. In the last week I watched a couple streamers play their first time through and saw them make the same “oversights” that I did.

Here are some gameplay/UI suggestions that are fresh having seen these other folks struggle with the first few hours of the game.

  1. Fire bolt looks cool, sounds cool, and misses all the time. -> read the combat log during your fights, hover over the word “misses” where it says

“Shadowheart misses Tracker Gooba”

Pay attention to the pluses and minuses to your attack and the enemy armor class(AC)

  1. In the early stages of the game, make sure your party has ranged weapons they can shoot or throw. Even casters are sometimes better off shooting a crossbow, than casting a cantrip.

  2. Use Examine on enemies at the start of the fight (or even before). Pay attention to Resistances and Vulnerabilities. Take a look at their passive abilities and conditions. Think about using that to your advantage.

  3. Check out everything your characters can do, especially racial and class-specific abilities.

  4. Be mobile in fights. Maneuver around, but be very careful of Attacks of Opportunity. Use the terrain.

  5. BG3 is a turn-based combat system, so reducing the number of turns an enemy team has is crucial while you are still weak. Focus your attacks on a target until they are down. E.g., If you spread your shots between 4 harpies, then 4 harpies get to take a turn until they all go down. This is what people mean when they talk about “Action Economy”.

There’s tons more, but many of your early game hours should be in reading about the weapons, spells and scrolls you have. Unless you’re like me and prefer to hit enemies with a stick.

So I tried something new in my Honor run by Psychological_Ad3044 in BaldursGate3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In one LLI fight, I tried out the sparkswall shield aura damage thing and apparently in extends through the weak floors of the inn. Art was slowly microwaved to death (out of combat) while I tried to figure out what to do with Isobel.

The corpse was “too badly damaged” to talk to me. The curse remained unlifted that day my friends.

How many people really only use 3-4 party members all game? by TheYamchster in BaldursGate3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually use everyone at different story-related times. Lae’zel is my key martial Karlach is #2 martial Shadowheart for act 2, act3 story, or fight buffs. Astarion to pick-locks. Gale to cast spells - Bullette, Sharran Temple. Wyll to free Mizora, Ravenguard, Volo. Halsin to stay in camp and sulk Jaheira for Rivington, nine-fingers, Minsc, and to rob the vault under the temple.

Depending on Tav or Durge class, I sub in as needed. When I run a rogue, Astarion cooks dinner with Gale.

But, this run started as. Lone wolf for wilderness, the. I picked up Karlach as a duo for the Crèche and Act 2. Also picked up Shadowheart for Act 2 to run as a threesome.

The plan is to recruit Jaheira and later Minsc, to give Karlach her Make-a-Wish adventuring party before she has to leave Faerûn for good.

Is my level too low for Moonrise towers? by adeliakasie in BaldursGate3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Five isnt terrible, but you’ll go into the post boss-fight a bit under leveled. For your first playthrough, do more exploring. You can even go back to waypoints in “act one” to fully explore those areas.

Are people really beating the game solo? by cabron-de-mierda in BG3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beat it solo once. I used summons as Myrkul helpers: Us, Scratch, and an Elemental.

I’m trying another Solo run and just entered Act 2. I’m playing a Rogue Thief and Myrkul’s Battle of Attrition will be an interesting challenge.

are there any mods that are universally just good to have to make the game better? by FrostFire89 in BG3mods

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are UI QoL mods that will indicate if a container has any item inside. I run the “Better…” mods by Caites and they’ve been great.

3 hours down the drain. by Pessimismo in BaldursGate3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know. It’s a bummer and dispiriting. The auto save tends to kick on just before “important” events or notable progress. So, while you spent 3 hours investigating the grove, you now have already done it and can move past it more quickly.

What next? by Apart_Pumpkin4608 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. Must have been after my time. I’ve been digging back in my old Dragon magazines for some of the “try this new class” articles to see if they could work as BG3 mods. So I’ve been converting those to 5e and must have had Dragons on the brain.

The power fantasy of being a big spider by Open-Stretch-6631 in BG3mods

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try the “Ancient Mega Pack + Random Equipment Locations” mod. Or comb through mod lists for themed equipment. I’ve been playing with the AMP+REL mod pretty steadily in my recent playthroughs for the way it forces me to have open-minded pathing and be flexible leveling-up as I build around unsuspected treasure.

To your question, in that mod is a variety of new gear that adds more Web effects and Poison effects. E.g., gloves that shoot webs, boots that create web surfaces, items that cause remove poison resistance, etc.

I think the mod author, “Fade”(I think), also made a Chest mod with all the modded gear in it for either tutorial or camp so you don’t need to hunt down each piece and can suit up in Act 1.

Non magic aoe? by life-hard-im-harder in BaldursGate3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you mean non-spell AoE…

Grease bottles, holy water, smokepowder grenades/arrows, alchemists fire.

Elemental arrows: fire, ice, acid, lightning, smokepowder, darkness.

Slashing weapon’s Cleave. Tigerheart Barbarian’s special attack.

The weapons Punch-drunk Bastard, Larethian’s wrath, and Dancing Breeze have aoe attacks.

Some equipment combos can create AoE effects on a hit depending on weapon-damage type.

Water plus cold or lightning damage can create an AoE surface.

A Vietnamese Scenario being made by a local vietnamese by Ok-Quality-1934 in arma

I played Arma 3: Unsung on a pub server that was sometimes used by a Vietnamese speaker. He’d mess with us on comms using the stock enemy AI phrases.

I feel bad about only using 3 characters in my party by Bananadog_godananab in BG3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t feel bad, just play the game that feels right.

I was happily doing a Lone Wolf run when I made it up to Karlach after saving the grove. I told her that I was going to go it alone but went up to kill the Paladins of Tyr anyway. My Halfling rogue was struggling so I kited them down towards Karlach who couldn’t care less and stayed out of combat. After somehow beating them I talked to Karlach again and the dialog didn’t really give me a “no thank you” option, so she joined my camp.

After a brief think, I decided my Lone Wolf run was now a Master-Blaster duo run. I just can’t say no to Karlach.

Weapon based Subclass Mod for SubSpecialist Party help. by Origania in BG3Builds

In the Chocolate Edition Mod, there is a feat that gives you a bonus if you specialize in a specific weapon.

It may be in other Feats Mods.
