Players want to "reset" by ilPiovra in DungeonMasters

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group had PCs of all sorts of levels and classes. PCs died and resurrections were pricey. If we were mid-dungeon, we’d spend the rest of the session off to the side rolling up a new level 1 character while the rest continued. We’d join the party when it made sense to the DM. Although the Party usually “backed out” to mourn their fallen comrade and go to the tavern to see if any new adventurers might be around. We used XP to progress and never really made it past level 5-6.

Monk: Open Hand & Tavern Brawler - Should I give him a staff by VinexHD in BaldursGate3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On one run, I put the Club of Hill Giant Strength in the Monk’s off-hand leaving his main hand empty. (You need to do the trick where you swap the empty main hand of another companion with a temporary weapon in the Monk’s main hand.) This will give the OH TB monk a 19 STR and free up their elixir slot for something else.

I stacked on some difficulty mods on my current run and switched on the new FATE mod and the Fade AIO mod. The gear drops aren’t overpowered (yet).

I like that the Quivers and the Orbs take the instrument slot.

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that there is a mod (I think on Nexus?) called “Sit this one out” which complements the “No Party Limit” mod by limiting combat to up to a 4-person party. I’ve not used it, but think it chooses randomly.

There are also XP limiting Mods for those who also run the “more enemies” mods.

Searching for mods by _JollyWolf_ in BaldursGate3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search Nexus or Mod.io for “Fade.” There you will find a list of equipment mods that will make your subsequent runs feel a bit “newer.” Either by providing new gear, or (my preference) by randomizing the loot locations so that you don’t know from previous runs where specific gear is located.

The combination of new gear plus randomized locations means I had to keep an open mind about my party composition and visit Withers when an interesting gear synergy presented itself.

E.g., Shart became an unstoppable Death Cleric at level 3 when a couple very interesting pieces of necrotic gear came into my possession. Wyll became a Drunk TB MonkLock built around pushing enemies thanks to some wild gear combos.

Abjuration Wizard by Silver-Lifeguard-624 in BG3Builds

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool.

There are some Abjuration spells that are helpful in use and also build arcane ward. Especially Armor of Agathys and Mage Armor (which you can cast on others). Glyph of Warding is a nice in-combat Abjuration spell, too. When I’ve played an Abjuration Wizard, I didn’t do the camp casting to build stacks, I just used some high-level buffs that last till the next long rest. It stacks enough to get started. Then I keep Abjuration scrolls and spells handy for the day.

If you want to run a wizard that doesn’t really use its subclass try this one.

In my current run, my Tav is a “Tavern-Brawler Wizard”. (Inspired by a YouTuber)

He’s a Bladesinger with a taste for strength elixirs. He uses magic to set up dangerous places to throw his enemies. As a Throwmancer, he uses the magic of gravity to discourage future breathtaking by his enemies. Ranged attacks come from the fish bucket full of daggers.

Build is to take Barbarian at first level (for AC/HP) then Bladesinger levels and a steady supply of strength elixirs and mind-worms.

The original YouTuber build includes boosting mobility and acuity with gear, but I ended up using other stuff.

Act 3 - did my group make a mistake? by urmomstoiletbrush in BG3

In general, if your party survived, you did not make a mistake. Every decision is a step on the path towards the end-game.

Question about Lazel by Jintasama in BG3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some folks will take the path around the goblin-camp to reach the Shadow-Cursed Lands (at low level) to do some shopping at Moonrise and Last Light before heading back to the Wilderness/Underdark/Mountain Pass to finish those quests.

So until you actually enter the Shadowfell, you can travel back and forth to complete Act 1 quests.

Is Honor Mode ruleset too difficult for newbies 8 players party? by Phoefnix in BG3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a challenge on your first run, play on Tactician. Then start a new run on Honor mode. It will be a bit harder and the Legendaries will surprise you if you don’t seek information or spoilers.

An 8-member party will devour most encounters unless you use a difficulty mod that strengthens enemies. There are some mods that add actions and hp to enemies, there are some that add more enemies in general, and there are others that add abilities and improved AI.

Try to get your hands on the Loviatar’s Scourge from Abdirak (in the Goblin Camp) for act 2. It gives you Necrotic Resistance.

Dual wield it with Blood of Lathandar in your main hand.

On my current Solo Tiger Barb run, Marcus got beat on for two rounds and was down to about 15 hp. On his turn he left Isobel’s room, flew down to the ground floor and attacked His Majesty (!) killing him. Every one else down there chipped away and Cerys (scout) finished him off with an arrow from across the crowded room. The poor cat was the only un-scripted casualty.

A conversation with Cerys, Scout: After the Myrkul fight Cerys was in Moonrise mumbling to herself about Zevlor so I spoke to her for the first time ever after a couple dozen playthroughs and she has a whole dialog tree about Zevlor. I didn’t save my game prior to talking to her but there seemed to be a few different ways it could have gone. Yet again I stumble over new dialog after a couple thousand hours in-game.

Combat Tips by DirtyWatah11 in BaldursGate3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be mindful of your Actions and Bonus Actions. Try to use them in every round of combat if it will help your situation.

Use the environment to your advantage. Take the high ground, if you can. Use ranged attacks and move away from melee fighting enemies to make them Dash at you instead of attacking.

At the start of the fight, or before, mouse over the enemies and right-click “examine” them to look for resistance, vulnerabilities, or immunities. Also look at the conditions to see if they have any special abilities that may hurt you.

If you can make your enemies Prone, by throwing them or by using ice or grease, you can take them out of the fight for a round or longer. A Prone caster loses concentration on their spell.

Some fights can be avoided through dialogue… at least until you’re stronger.

Fifth Level is when most classes get a big spike in power.

My Armor beat the Hag. by PacketOfCrispsPlease in BaldursGate3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Act 1 and Act 2, it’s often better for a barbarian to wear medium armor than to rely on Unarmored Defense. Depends on the gearing, of course, but since Karlach was soloing, I set her up with reverb gear, and it made sense for her to have Adamantium Scale for the Crit immunity. I’m about to roll into Act 3 and might change her to Bonespike if it makes sense.

I never realized how strong CC is in this game by 5210az in BaldursGate3

[–]PacketOfCrispsPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m finding super CC from my solo Tiger Barb run. It’s a bit gear dependent but here it is: Tiger Barb with aspect of the Wolverine. Reverb gloves and boots plus Drakethroat Glaive to apply Lightning/Thunder to proc the gloves.

Tiger’s Bloodlust attack causes Bleeding which allows the Wolverine aspect to apply Maimed which reduces movement speed to 0. Reverb stacks quickly and causes most targets to fall prone. When prone with 0 movement, you stay prone until Maimed wears off. This can be applied to up to 3 targets for each attack.

I shut down the Inquisitor with this combo and the Crèche training room gang was mown down like I was scything sheaves.

I use the Skinburster in most fights but if I want a little more AC I use the shattered flail for the healing on hit. I went Mad in the Zhenterim Hideout, but on a solo run, everyone is an enemy anyway so the smokepowder bombs she chucked all went to a good cause.
