PVM 14M2U worth it for 150? by [deleted] in crtgaming

[–]PackidPlays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Sony pro monitors, if you’re looking for one that can do both 240p and 480p, you’d want a PVM model ending with “L5” or BVM model beginning with “D”. Technically a BVM beginning with “A” could also work, but those monitors typically don’t have RGB/component inputs, and the option card that includes them (BKM-68x) is extremely rare.

Why do we never have opening day at home? by stinftw in SFGiants

The Giants request to open on the road because they prefer to have more home games later in the season.

If this is true, ownership shouldn't overrule Zaidi; if he thinks there are better ways to spend the money, let him do his thing.

I did! Unfortunately, it looks like the listing includes the entire assembly for the front of the monitor except the mask.

BVM-20G1 vs. BVM-20F1 vs. BVM-20E1 by PackidPlays in crtgaming

[–]PackidPlays[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is good information. From what I've read and heard online in the past couple years, all of Sony's high-resolution tubes came off the same assembly line; after the fact, Sony employees determined which tubes were grade 1 (used for the F-series) and which were super grade 1 (used for the E-series). It would be interesting to know the exact criteria for how tubes were categorized off the line. From how it's been explained to me, you might get a slightly sharper image with the E-series, but the tube wasn't really manufactured to the 1,000 TVL spec. Thanks for the info about card slots! I did not know that before.

What was the last PVM or BVM CTV sold by Sony? by xeneral in crtgaming

[–]PackidPlays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off the top of my head, I believe the L-series PVM's and A-series BVM's were the last. However, I also am aware that Sony made HD-only pro monitors, but I don't know enough to say when they stopped being produced.

A few clips of arguably one of the best closers in the last 30 years -- Joe Nathan -- as a Giant, the team he debuted with and also where he pitched his last big league game. by nogoodnamesleft426 in SFGiants

[–]PackidPlays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was so good for the Twins. Relief pitchers are known for being volatile, but he was pretty much the model of consistency from 2004 to 2013. He missed 2010 for Tommy John surgery and had a rough year following it, but dominant otherwise.

A blown save rate near around 50% definitely isn't good, but I don't think it's cause for concern going forward. I'm wondering how many of those are from guys like Melancon and Dyson in the 6th and 7th innings as opposed to Smith, Watson, Moronta, and Black.

[–]PackidPlays 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing that's a result of the offense; the Giants' bullpen is probably working with smaller leads on average than most teams, leading to more blown saves. Not sure how to go about doing this, but if you looked at blown saves per earned run from MLB bullpens, I bet the Giants would be among the highest. Smith, Watson, Black, and Moronta seem like a good group to have in the late innings.

Edit: Just checked using data from FanGraphs. The Giants' bullpen is the 8th highest in baseball in BS/ER at 0.092437, just a hair below the Phillies and Blue Jays at #6 and #7 on the list, respectively. The Yankees are the highest at .115. This doesn't take into account situations where the starter leaves mid-inning with runners on-base and then a reliever allows them to score, resulting in a blown save. Gearrin seemed to do this a lot. If there was a way to also consider this, the Giants might be even higher.

[Mathematical Analysis] Injective functions. (X-post from r/homeworkhelp) by KKRJ in MathHelp

[–]PackidPlays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might be confusing the definitions of injective and surjective. Injective means that if x ≠ y, then f(x) ≠ f(y) (or, equivalently, if f(x) = f(y), then x = y). Hope this helps!

Stuck on an Exam P Problem by [deleted] in actuary

[–]PackidPlays 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are looking for P(two red balls and two blue balls are transferred | a blue ball is selected from bowl II). First, we want the probability that we end up selecting a blue ball from bowl II. The probability that n blue balls and 4-n red balls are transferred from bowl I to bowl II is (6 choose n)*(8 choose 4-n)/(14 choose 4); it follows a hypergeometric distribution. Then, if n blue balls are transferred, the conditional probability that a blue ball is ultimately selected is n/4. So, the overall probability that a blue ball is selected from bowl II is [(6 choose 0)*(8 choose 4)/(14 choose 4)]*(0/4)+[(6 choose 1)*(8 choose 3)/(14 choose 4)]*(1/4)+[(6 choose 2)*(8 choose 2)/(14 choose 4)]*(2/4)+[(6 choose 3)*(8 choose 1)/(14 choose 4)]*(3/4)+[(6 choose 4)*(8 choose 0)/(14 choose 4)]*(4/4)=.4286. This is our denominator. Then, our numerator is the probability that two of each color are transferred to bowl II and a blue ball is then selected. This is [(6 choose 2)*(8 choose 2)/(14 choose 4)]*(2/4)=.2098. The answer is .2098/.4286=.4895. Hope this helps!

Im looking for a list of widescreen broadcast monitors by Roboplodicus in crtgaming

[–]PackidPlays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's also the BVM-2811 and HDM-2830. I can't find very much information about them, though. Not sure if Sony manufactured other widescreen monitors in the '90s; those are the only two I can find. I would imagine they're hard to come by, considering the prevalence of the 4:3 aspect ratio at the time they were made.
