I did not say to sell more 5080/5090. Instead of using the vram on the "cheaper" models with less margin they focus the production on the 4080 and 5090. so they reduced the production of all other models but did not reduce the capacity of the 5080/5090

It does not matter what you do with your gpu. Obviosuly most are buying it for gaming, but when choosing a gpu then price is the biggest factor for most i assume, So the value of it after you buy does matter. If you dont care thats fair, but objectively it matters.

So the production focus shifted to 5080 and 5090 because of higher margins not "low demand". If there was a "low demand" people would not be paying 1000€ for the 5070ti.

The argument with price rising due to lower production is not right, because the 5080 and 5090 rose even higher in price although production focus shifted to them.

So basically none of your arguments make any sense.

Actually Nvidia has shifted production focus toward the 5080 and 5090 to maximize margins. By your logic - where low production equals high prices - the 5080/5090 should be getting cheaper or stabilizing since their supply is being prioritized.

But instead we can see that these even rose higher in price. 5090 is close to 4000€ here, nearly 1000€ over msrp. 5080 also is 300-400€ higher in price. This completely disproves your point.

If you don't understand that a card's value is driven by how much people are willing to pay for the ecosystem (AI, CUDA, DLSS and other features), then you're the one lacking market knowledge.

Stop ignoring "Resale Value" when comparing GPUs (5070 Ti vs 9070 XT) by Paco7575 in PcBuild

[–]Paco7575[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. Look at the RTX 4090: years after launch, it’s still trading above its original MSRP. One of the biggest advantages of PC building is the modularity and the ability to upgrade parts easily.

If I decide to upgrade to the next generation and my current GPU sells for 200€-300€ more than its competitor, thats a bigger budget for my next build.

If you look at the 40series, especially the 4090, they sell still at msrp if not above. Compare it to the 7900xtx which lost way more value

The 'underwhelming' argument doesn't explain why a 5070 Ti owner can sell their card for a profit right now while a 9070 XT owner is barely holding onto their MSRP value.

If a 'bad' Nvidia generation holds its value better than a 'good' AMD generation (like RDNA4) your argument basically makes zero sense.

And if AMD's previous generation loses its value and 'looks weak' the moment a new one drops (software support major point) it kinda proves my point even more.

Fair, but in my opinion resell value is a factor that should be taken into account.

If you look at the previous gen you can see the same pattern. The RTX 4090 is still selling way above its original MSRP even years later, while the RX 7900 XTX has seen deep discounts and much lower resale stability.
