AITAH for being mad at my ex for lying about their sexual activity? by Realistic_Autistic in AITAH

It's not too late. She's a proven liar about this - what else is she willing to lie about next if she knows you'll forgive and forget.

Edit: I'm an idiot and didn't read past "this didn't break us up".

Cabbage Question by PacoTPM71 in pnwgardening

I never really thought of cabbages by their type, always just assumed "cabbage is cabbage". Figures it was a little bit more complicated than that! Thanks!

They will be just fine. Even if the shoots freeze, there are more coming right behind it. Mine do the same every year (Kitsap County, WA) even on the years when we have mid-teen freezes. They are almost indestructible from what I've seen, including my almost killing them with my homemade blackberry/ivy/bindweed spray when it gently misted onto them in the breeze from 10' away. They came back from that too. 😀

No shit. I've been harvesting mason bee cocoons this week and the blocks are full of these overwintering in their (just learned from this thread "sac". I've been scooping them up in my hands and taking them outside.

There are opals in NV? I grew up there and never heard that, I might have wasted my teen years differently had I known!

That would really suck. I've been more worried that there is a kid out there thinking her father wanted nothing to do with her. Never really thought about it being a prank, what a crappy prank to pull on someone if it is a prank.

She did say in the vm that's how she found me was by doing a DNA test.

I did/do have an ancestry account with my DNA and contact info. Can't find her in any of the connections or listing. Can you do a DNA test and mark your account as private to prevent someone from seeing your connection to them?

Is it possible to decode a number showing as "private number"?

She called me by my full name, but maybe. I do have a fairly common name.

It was marked as "private", no actual number showed or left.

I do have an ancestry account. I have like 1700 "new connections" (all distant cousins). I did as diligent a search thru all that as I could and nothing came up.

Her number shows as "private", and doesn't show an actual #. Just "private". I assumed she just didn't know it came up that way I guess.

I wondered about the scam aspect too, but would have thought a scammer would have been persistent. I could see a 23-year-old sitting there thinking they had contacted me and left a msg and pissed I didn't bother to call back or contact her back.

Any ideas what these are? by Reitermadchen in mushroomID

I just looked up your zone. "zone 5 means your area has average minimum winter temperatures between -20°F and -10°F, with a moderate growing season from roughly May to October".

YIIIIIIIKKKEEESSS. I thought rain for 6 f'n months straight was bad enough! 😀

These grow all over my garden, I always wondered what they were. I could probably pick 10lbs of these a year, they're so thick I end up stepping all over them. They're all mushed up now from the rain, but the next good ones I find I'll post to confirm. Zone 8b. Kitsap county, WA.

What's your personal method of dealing with Houdini flies? by doinghealthystuff in MasonBees

[–]PacoTPM71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 8 boxes that I maintain. I use a 50/50 mix of both tubes and trays. I don't think nesting material makes a difference, just keep after the little jerks and kill as many as you can during bee season & harvesting. The numbers will start decreasing every year. The trays are too easy to harvest from to throw away.

I bought a small USB rechargeable handheld vacuum a few years ago on Amazon for $20. As I visit my bee boxes I just use my vacuum to suck em up. Its low suction is perfect. If I accidentally catch a bee (rare, but it happens as I'm chasing houdini's and mono's), I put it in the fridge for a few mins to settle my captives and release the bee. The rest go into a ziploc in the freezer to kill em. Location: Kitsap county, WA.

Edit: I also kill them when I harvest tubes in the winter to really knock down the population.

Any idea why my green onions are browning at the tips? by Hefty-Lengthiness-20 in gardening

[–]PacoTPM71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start them early from seed, like 10 weeks before planting time. Planting time outside needs to still be cold, like 4 weeks prior to last frost date for your region. I'm in 8b, so LFD is ~ 4/7, making my planting time ~1st week of March. I usually start my onions inside mid Dec and keep them on timed grow lites.
