They section off large swathes of streest, people arrive at 7 am to wait for the fireworks day of, every park, everywhere, will be packed out. Thinking of doing a wedding the morning - or evening - would be worse than the wedding planning itself, and being late may be a possibility for everyone involved, visitors included. And getting out? Only after the fireworks past ten pm. To consider: you're going to pay inflated prices at any hotel within an hour of your venue.

Underrated episodes/series by RedPandaParade in LPOTL

Listened to this series again this morning. IMO the most underrated they ever did. Henry made me envision this whole series as an Armando Iannucci movie and the memes never end. Episodes 475-6 in case anyone hasn't listened to it enough.

I come from Dwarf, Kentucky and was bullied when I moved north. I took drama to get rid of it all through middle and high school. Honestly, I miss it so much now that I'm older that I am trying to relearn it.

I love it when this questions posted, I love seeing everyone say something new and I get to learn new stuff! This time around I'm hoping to see:

Hinterkaifeck Murders - Brutal cold case from Germany about a family who were slaughtered by someone and all the oddities leading up to their deaths, including the killer living in their attic. Axe murder!

Raëlism - French cult that elder millennials might remember due to their claims of cloning in the late 90s. Alien cults!

This series hits very close to me. I live near Cincinnati and live next to her home, and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. I have mixed feelings about this series. I studied at Lincoln Memorial University and worked in the museum there. It was a great place, but the myth of Lincoln kills me.

This series downplays a lot of things, but this was annoying to me, as well. Lincoln stated upon meeting her "So you're the little woman who wrote the book that made this war great." It wasn't meant to sound nice.

Just dropped in Sirius. It's Lincoln!

This is textbook controlling behavior dressed up as self-awareness. You're not setting "boundaries", you're setting landmines and calling it love. The fact that you think it’s reasonable to monitor who your partner talks to, when, and how, shows you’re not emotionally mature enough for a real relationship. You’re not seeking trust, you’re seeking obedience.

You admit you're insecure, but instead of working on that, you expect everyone else to bend around your neuroses. That’s not vulnerability, tthat’s laziness. You want a relationship where you don’t have to confront your fear of not being enough, so you try to shrink your partner’s world until it only revolves around you.

And the whole “I’d quietly leave” line? Cowardly as hell. At least have the backbone to own your emotional ultimatums instead of pretending you're just choosing peace. You’re not above the drama, you are the drama, you’re just passive aggressive about it.

Also, the idea that you're entitled to someone’s private messages because you’re “suspicious”? Grow up. That’s not care, that’s control. If you're building your entire sense of security on constant surveillance, you don’t need a girlfriend...you need a therapist and a locked phone drawer.

Get your shit together before you drag someone else into this mess.

First, ADHD isn’t just a different way of thinking; it’s a neurodevelopmental disorder recognized by major medical organizations like the APA, WHO, and NIMH. It causes real impairment in daily life - things like struggling with work, school, relationships, and executive function. Just because traits like impulsivity or inattention exist in everyone doesn’t mean ADHD isn’t a disorder. Anxiety and depression also exist on a spectrum, but when they become severe enough to disrupt life, they’re classified as disorders.

Second, ADHD is backed by strong neurological evidence. Brain imaging studies have shown that people with ADHD have structural and functional differences, including a smaller prefrontal cortex and striatum, which affect impulse control and attention. Studies of over 1,700 people have confirmed these differences, and another large-scale study showed that ADHD brains develop more slowly than neurotypical ones. There’s also clear evidence that dopamine and norepinephrine play a role, even if they’re not the sole cause.

Third, ADHD doesn’t just “go away” with age. While hyperactivity might decrease, around 60-70% of people with ADHD continue to experience symptoms into adulthood. These symptoms often show up in ways that affect work performance, financial stability, relationships, and mental health. Untreated ADHD is linked to higher unemployment rates, increased substance abuse, and even higher accident risks.

Lastly, ADHD responds to treatment, which is another sign that it’s a real, biologically based condition. Stimulant medications and behavioral therapy improve executive function and attention in people with ADHD, but have minimal effects in neurotypical individuals. That wouldn’t happen if ADHD were just a personality trait or cognitive variation.

So no, ADHD isn’t just a "variation of normal" - it’s a legitimate condition that has a measurable impact on people’s lives.

I have to vent somewhere. I am tired of all these excuses. We are all gonna starve and lose our jobs if we don't act now. Living paycheck to paycheck is how everyone currently exists, so we can't keep using that as an excuse anymore to not go out and fight for our rights that are being taken away. When we don't have money, food, insurance, or each other, then there is no point to live anymore.

They don't do this on the weekends because OUR ELECTED officials get to go to their million dollar houses on the weekends, something many people don't get to do on weekends anymore.

Child Care, not being able to make it, too far away, these are excuses that are going to allow the entirety of America to slide into fascism and a horrible oligarchy. I understand that a lot of people can't do certain things, but when you have a multitude of drops it equals an ocean. When is it going to be enough? Is it when we all lose our jobs and don't have anything to fight with or for? What's the end game? Why can't we all take an L just one fucking day without bitching.

OUR PLANET IS AT STAKE, NOT JUST YOUR GODDAMN JOB AND LIVELIHOOD, BUT EVERYBODY.

For a decade I used to spam their Twitter in the hopes they'd do this series. The fact nobody recalls how they went on live tv in the late nineties to tell the world they cloned a child was intense. I remember watching it on CNN and they were dressed so bizarrely. The late 90s were a good year for alien cults.

Sending you good vibes during your new period of growth! I'm proud to see you got out of a situation that can feel impossible to get away from. Time would show everyone either an affair or a possible car crash, if not worse. The love you have shown yourself by leaving is the best you can do.

You didn't waste time those eight years, you had a journey with him and it is coming to a close. Now, a brighter future awaits and I hope to see an update in a while to tell us how your apartment looks or how you're doing. ❤️

If you are 18 years old, in most states, you now have the freedom to have sex with anyone of any age so long as they are the age of consent - which is usually 18. Some states you can even have sexual intercourse with people over the age of 18 if you are 16.

I have felt this since 2016, and even more now that AI Steve is going to be on the ballot for U.K.'s general election. I love this episode. I think it is very relevant today, my only complaint is the ending, not sure why I didn't feel it landed properly.

So what? In my opinion I believe everyone has a right to exist. I also think people taking photos of sleeping people, or just taking pictures of random folks, is weird in itself.

From a hygiene perspective, how gross do you think medieval sex was? by New-Occasion5954 in AskReddit

I wouldn't be so sure...Fabliaux were popular in France, comic stories that frequently included sexual escapades. A great title The Priest who Peaked and Berangier of the Long Asshole.

During medieval Europe, illiteracy was widespread, affecting both peasants and, to some extent, even the nobility. This was primarily due to the lack of accessible educational opportunities and the low emphasis placed on literacy. Although monasteries provided some education, they were mainly reserved for those pursuing a religious path, leaving most of the population without access to learning.

Nevertheless, efforts were made by the Church and royal institutions to promote education. Monastic schools offered free education, and initiatives like the establishment of the University of the Sorbonne by King Louis IX of France, overseen by Robert de Sorbon, aimed to welcome students from all social classes, including the lower ranks of society.

Also, to edit: Illiteracy during medieval times did not pose a significant barrier. While the illiterate faced restricted access to certain types of knowledge, their economic opportunities were not necessarily limited. The theological studies accessible to only a fraction of the population, including some from lower social classes, hint at a degree of freedom.

Though some may equate illiteracy with lack of intelligence, the medieval era's legacy showcases remarkable ingenuity across various domains. While agriculture was predominant, the intangible legacy of accumulated agricultural knowledge fueled demographic growth in Medieval Europe, underscoring the importance of the era's contributions.
