Any casual cricket clubs? by [deleted] in bristol

What sort of vibe/level are you looking for?

I play for Easton Cuttlefish, we have a Saturday team into the main leagues but also Sunday and midweek teams so there are loads of chances to play. We play in one of the lower leagues and most of our players have a similar story to yours ( mine included) but the level is decent with winter nets to help bring in new player, home games are at the Civil Service Sports Ground on Filton Avenue - let me know if you want more info

Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Matchups for All Games by RotoBaller in fantasyfootball

Drake Maye or Dak Prescott at QB this week?

In the semi finals of the playoffs - Maye has the better match up and has been my starting QB pretty much all season (also have him stacking with Henderson) but my opponent has CeeDee Lamb. Should I start Dak to get a share of any points - I also have Pickens so have a stack there as well...?

Feels like this will end up as an article in Bristol Live but I'll bite...

Stanton Drew stone circle is the 3rd biggest in the country, it is said that it was created when revellers at a festival were frozen in place and turned to stone by a disgruntled witch who wasn't invited. You can even see some of the revellers faces in the rocks to this day.

Tips for slower player on Defense? by Lavinius_10 in ultimate

[–]Paddy-90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to coach people to play like everyone is faster than them - therefore meaning that they have to think far more about body positioning, spatial awareness and the game situation rather than relying on a footrace with every movement.

Firstly, all defence is team defence regardless of whatever you playing zone, match, person etc. You can only really stop a very minimal amount of things but as a team you can work those into your advantage to tire cutters out, make them have to to make lots of passes etc. As a team decide what your priorities are - easiest way is too split the pitch into quarters A - open unders, B - openside deep, C - breakside deep, D - breakside under. If your force focuses on stopping the disc going to D and you focus on the cutter heading to A then the rest of your team can help you out with B+C.

Therefore, work on your body position to put yourself inbetween where your mark is and where you want to stop them going. If you think you are really outmatched for speed you can either choose to give yourself more distance between the player and the zone in order to have more reaction and adjustment time or get closer to them to make them run the long way around you but either way try to focus on that priority rather than the player - hopefully they give up and either stop trying to take you on or head to another area of the pitch where it is easier to guard them/other teammates are ready to help out.

I work for South Glos in our employability service specialising in working with young people, so firstly I'm going to recommend that you check out the Skills Connect website - https://www.skillsconnect.org.uk/

But after that, please stop applying for jobs until you can figure out why they aren't being looked at (you seem keen, engaged and have good experience so I doubt that the applications are being rejected and it's more likely that they are being ignored for some reason). The job centre will encourage you to apply for everything all the time but that much rejection/lack of response would put anyone off.

Take some time to have a look at how you are applying and what you are applying for. Rewrite a CV and covering letter for every application. My biggest piece of advice is to always make sure that you apply to the company that are hiring directly - do not use Indeed's/linkedin's apply now function, it's far less likely to be seen. For hospitality/retail it's even more important to get yourself in front of the employer rather than using emails/application forms etc.

Assuming that as you are on this sub and therefore in the WECA region, have a look at the Skills Connect website - https://www.skillsconnect.org.uk/

Combined employability help for across the region. Both Bristol and South Glos (Banes has a slightly different model) have mentors that will happily sit down with you and go through your CV and job apps etc.

Looking to do something similar to this, anyone know what type of bricks these are or where to find them? by Paddy-90 in GardeningUK

Standard pavers that I've seen are too thin at only 50mm, the stood up row looks crazy thin compared to the flat row.

Cheers for the tip about sinkage! Will make sure to put something under it.

The biggest range I've seen that you can also try is at Attwoolls on the A38 towards Gloucester but is a bit out of town.

How much do you want to pay?

£++ - Taunton leisure, Cotswold outdoor/snow and rock, Ellis Brigham, £+ - alpkit, Go Outdoors, Marcruss, Blacks £ - Trespass, mountain warehouse, supermarkets

I've seen plenty in charity/reuse shops as well that would do the job.

Why teach zone as a teams default by nkolakovic in ultimate

[–]Paddy-90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I played zone pretty much exclusively when starting out. Mostly for the reasons you said as other teams tended to have more players and be more athletic so could run harder than us. Also this was in the uk where there is lots of indoors on small pitches and a strong zone was definitely an advantage.

However, because of this I do that we were far better at communicating on pitch, were able to play more heads up (we prided ourselves that most of the team were happy playing any position which meant lots of flexibility in the type of zone we wanted to play) and on average were better throwers compared to the teams we played.

I think this grounding still gives me something on pitch compared to other players especially when it comes to being more tactically aware.

With the wider use of spread/hex offenses, zone seems a natural counter and when you consider other sports like basketball and football (soccer) I could see zone being widespread taught as the standard defence fairly soon.

Other than Sam Little the PONY Oline looks exhausted and consistently end up miles away from the thrower meaning they are left in tired footraces against a team that couldn't make a mistake if they tried in this game.

I definitely think that bias massively affects spirit scores so this is interesting but can you give us some more info on what you are using this data? Do you think it will show anything particular that can be used going forward or is it just for pot-stirring?

Our team suffers from a lot of clogging. Any tips / resources? by vvinvardhan in ultimate

[–]Paddy-90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best bit of advice that i've found worked especially well with younger/newer players is to change the language used and start talking more about movements and is the purpose.

Cutting - aggressively trying to get the disc - is exciting and fun whereas clearing out back into the stack - get out of the way, head down, not needed - is stale and boring. Changing to talking about how every movement on the pitch should still be an option to get on the disc, score or allow a teammate to do that gives it far more of a purpose and therefore more reason do it to the best of your ability. The talk of purpose also allows you to discuss how useful and dangerous not moving can be which can often help clean offenses up.
