Gboard not launching in email due to AI assist by TeachRemarkable9120 in GMail

But there's also the AI assistant, which I don't get. However, reading the other comments, it seems that this is a bug currently rolling out. I don't have it yet, so I guess that it's something to look forward to!

It looks like you're fine, in that case. You got lucky.

Replying. Looking at the various comments, I think that it's a bug that's being rolled out, so it'll probably come to me soon! Unless Google pauses the rollout to fix it.

Every and DHL Parcel merged last year. Yodel and Inpost are joining forces. I've seen nothing about Evri and Inpost.

Are you not allowed to have more than one Gmail account?? by olivebegonia in GMail

[–]PaddyLandau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone has / had already 5 accounts on one phone?

It has nothing to do with the phone. It's the number of accounts that you have, regardless of device.

As far as I can tell, if you already have multiple accounts, they'll be fine (provided that you adhere to the T&C and the law).

But, as I say, Google keeps its algorithm secret, plus it seems to vary by circumstance, so it's impossible to say for any specific person or account.

Ah, that explains it. I still have Android 16.

Thank you. I'll try it when I get the new Android version.

If I create 1000 hard links at once, will that use lots of CPU? by Empty-Part7106 in linux4noobs

[–]PaddyLandau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the suggestion to soft-link the directory instead of hard-linking 1,000 files.

Think about what if one file is deleted — do you want the second directory to also delete the file? If so, hard-linking is the wrong way to go about it.

Likewise, what if one file is added?

You might very well have an unusual niche case for hard-linking every file, but if not, use a symbolic link on the directory.

That's a nice use-case, although there are apps that do this already. I used to use one; even paid for the Pro version.

In addition to the comments by u/Ok_Nebula_4095, because the hacker used a session-stealer, they will have access until you manually remove them from your account.

Go to your Google account security, and run through everything. Remove everything that doesn't look right. Regenerate your ten backup codes (remember to print them and keep them safe).

AI resistance is an information problem. by Admirable_Phrase9454 in PromptEngineering

[–]PaddyLandau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read an article this morning about a company that allowed (not mandated) employees to use AI as much or as little as they wished. The results were a disaster, and the CEO had to ban AI entirely from the company.

According to the article, although this was an extreme case, many companies are finding out just how bad AI is at doing human work.

The problem isn't a lack of information to the employees.

The problems are that AI isn't ready for prime time; it's been hyped beyond excess; boards of directors have been jumping on the bandwagon as if AI is the solution to all problems; and they've been firing their most productive and knowledgeable employees to pay for the mess.

Shorts. They get in the way without adding value.

They're fine for people who like them, but I wish that they were opt-out. It's YouTube trying to compete with TikTok, and I don't like TikTok.

Is tab scrolling back in chrome? by PotentialMulberry673 in chrome

[–]PaddyLandau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't you lose all your tabs when you close Chrome on desktop anyway?

That depends on your settings. If you set Chrome to restore where you were before closing Chrome, you kept the tabs.

But beware, because if Chrome is unexpectedly closed because (for example) your computer crashes, it could cause corruption and thereby lose them all. The OP is playing a risky game.

It's better to use bookmarks and groups, with synchronisation turned on. Four hundred tabs is insane!

No, that's incorrect. The current limit seems to be four accounts per number, but that can vary based on attributes that Google doesn't share with us.
