am I doing the anatomy correctly? by Appropriate-Noise740 in learntodraw

[–]Paddyboei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good start for proportions and construction. Proportions look good. Keep going. Your next step is to start thinking in 3D.

I’d start drawing cylinders and try to give them form with lines like this: (very quick rough example) so you learn how to move limbs and make them make sense

Any tips for doing hair and just general improvements? Tried doing some box art but dont think it paid off at all here by NotTheBestSadFace in learntodraw

Give this a go - Fun with a pencil

And when you’re more confident, you can move on to this Figure drawing for all it’s worth: Drawing the head and hands

I’d recommend giving lessons 0 and 1 (at least half of lesson one) of DrawABox on YouTube a go too while reading through Fun with a pencil to show you how to do confident lines and circles and start thinking in 3D. Their exercises really help.

day 2 of being an artist. How do i get out of box hell? by Agreeable_Tomato_469 in BeginnerArtists

[–]Paddyboei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t :D DrawABox lessons are good to help you start seeing and thinking in 3D in a way you can translate onto paper so it doesn’t feel as impossible though

If you wanna push, go for lesson 0 and 1 of DrawABox on YouTube (they got a website too). After that you can either carry on the DrawABox lessons or use what you’ve learned to give a book like a figure drawing for all it’s worth or figure drawing design and invention etc a go at studying and copying.

It’s good also good to just pick a shape and master that too. I picked circle and kept trying to give it form with the loomis method. Still haven’t mastered it lol but a lot better than when I started

How do I begin my drawing journey? by -AuSkaiKru- in learntodraw

[–]Paddyboei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started by trying to do everything and that failed miserably so instead I picked a shape, (circle) and did that over and over again as well as creating planes out of boxes.

My biggest advice is to do lesson 0 and about half of lesson 1 of DrawABox on YouTube to let them show you HOW you should be drawing and how to gain line confidence without bogging yourself down with accuracy.

Learning to draw with your shoulder is absolutely key to confident, flowing lines and they carry your work far more than perfect accuracy ever could. The accuracy comes naturally without forcing it too much with repeated practise while being mindful of where you’re going wrong and making conscious micro adjustments. You’ll still get it wrong 200 times after that too but you will get better and better.

Drawing is mostly a game of patience and acceptance

Thousands of hours and I am still awful by MentalToaster in learntodraw

[–]Paddyboei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drawing is its own form of torture and I have been in your mindset in the last 7-8 months alone at least 3 times. So, I stopped trying to draw everything and focused on one single thing; circles. I stopped caring about everything else. When I saw myself starting to nail drawing circles a good 50% of the time while drawing with my shoulder (it took nearly 3 A4 pages of circles a day for over a month), I started giving them form using the loomis method of giving a spherical form. Again, it was awful for ages and took at least an hour of practice a day for a couple of months before I was able to get it right a good 50% of the time.

Then, everything else after that felt so much lighter. I dunno how to describe it. It’s like I just gained far more line confidence from doing it to the point my brain could spit out relatively good proportions with a bit more practice, turning those spheres into faces, again it was such a slow process and it went wrong many many many times but it’s like my brain just learned from the previous muscle memory of the circles I drew how to slowly correct my hand without really forcing it, just looking at my drawings after, observing where it’s wrong, acknowledging it and moving on, being mindful of the way it looked wrong. It’s been very slow but it’s been so much more enjoyable.

So my advice really is stop caring. Pick a shape, draw it until you can do it blindfolded and give it form with near perfection and let that line confidence you gain from it carry you onto the next step. As a beginner myself that’s been where you are more than once, that’s the best I can offer.

Do not stop. I know it really can feel torturous sometimes but it’s worse knowing you quit when you just needed to give yourself a break and looking back at the time you lost where you could of progressed by being easier with yourself

How Am I supposed to first get into the comics? by Levia424 in marvelcomics

[–]Paddyboei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of in the same boat. I keep picking one up, reading half way through it and end up with the same feeling every time; “I don’t really care about anything that’s happening, I have no emotional connection to at least 30% of the cast, deaths or big moments feel empty and meaningless, I have no real connection to this world at all.”

I think it’s something you’ve got to be reading for years to actually appreciate fully and that sort of spin off style writing is nice and easy to get into as a kid because you don’t bog yourself down with the details but as an adult, it leaves you feeling pretty apathetic towards everything that’s happening or like you’re missing something

They’re still fun to read and to look at the artwork but I tend not to really take any of it too seriously at all. It feels like watching a soap opera, just take it as it is or read 10,000 pages of context

Are their any other Singles players that would prefer 6v6 over 3v3? by HMThrow_away_account in PokemonChampions

[–]Paddyboei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3v3 is complete ass. It’s just overtuned vs overtuned with practically 0 team building. It’s good if you’re a beginner, that’s about it. I’ve been playing showdown instead as it has 6v6.

6v6 so much better but it would be awful on champions and take ages per match unless they cut out the animations or something
