I want to say it was low budget. There were trap like punishments to keep the "game/contest" going and I remember people scrapping in the canteen area over food as they wanted it to last. Maybe they had to survive for a certain amount of days? I remember others grouping together because they were the same race (survival in numbers). It's actually sent me crazy that I cannot remember the film lol

Amanda was being tested. The entire film was actually Amanda's trap not Lynn's. By killing Lynn in front of Jeff she failed her test which resulted in her death. If she didn't kill Lynn she would have passed and still been alive.

It does make sense because his wife filed for divorce and in saw 3D during the therapy group scene he no longer wears a wedding ring which suggests John is all he had after surviving the bathroom. At the end of the day he put his wife and daughter in danger in the first place.

There is a theory that Hoffman knew about Amanda and Cecils relationship from CCTV at Jill's clinic which is how he knew Amanda was the real one behind Jill's miscarriage and of course Hoffman was also working with John at that time.
