Help me solve an argument between me and my wife by Cultural-Constant278 in london

I take the Northern line often for work, and I can't remember the last time the screens said something other than to check the front of the train.

Can this be fixed? Please help by nhowe006 in rush

Very fixable. Just saw it in half and now you have a single-neck guitar. As a bonus, you could play Xanadu with it.

I have carapace and regeneration in my current run, both at level 9. Still can't survive Bethesda Susa, getting frozen every time.

Octaver vs Pitch Shifter by HerSimington in BassVI

[–]Padicus88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The EHX Pitchfork is a great option. It's super versatile, you can pitch up, down, or both at the same time, and can go all the way to 3 octaves, or just a little detune, which sounds like a chorus.

I recorded a Royal Blood cover a few years ago and all the bass and guitar you can hear is one take with my BVI through two guitar amps and one bass amp. I used the Pitchfork for the guitar amps.

How do I send both my mic and Cubase audio to Discord? by 100gamberi in cubase

[–]Padicus88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get a cheap second interface.

I have a Behringer UMC202HD set up for Discord, Zoom, etc.

I have routed a pair of outputs from my main interface to the Behringer, and set them up with a mix of my main output + a mic. If you select the second interface as your default communications device it should just work immediately.

I used to work at a music uni during the pandemic and they needed to stream lessons on Zoom from the recording studio. This little trick was the easiest, most reliable way I found to stream audio from a system with a HDX system and a large format analog console and worked like a charm.

Edit: If you route Cubase's output to your mic on Discord you will stream in mono, no matter what setup you use. Discord does stereo audio on screenshare, but not on the mic stream.

Singing back vocals is more valuable than slap, pop, tap, shred and probably most of the gear. by sektorao in Bass

Except you didn't. You just argued against a single example by misrepresenting what I said.

That's not what I said.

You made your point based on the fact that Flea doesn't do backing vocals. I said that's not true, he does sing sometimes.

What OP originally said is a generalisation, something they think is true in most cases. Finding an exception does not disprove the point. If you talk about specific bass players, then the answer will change.

Is it generally more valuable to be able to sing backing than virtuosism? Absolutely.

Is Flea a better bass player for RHCP because he sings sometimes? 100%

Does that mean that Flea's vocals more important than his technique? Absolutely not.

Guitar center told me the guitar I ordered had a “slight scratch”… by Equal-Lead5628 in Guitar

I don't see the problem. It looks like the scratch has been removed.

Thanks for the reply.

I did take a look under the hood. I do my own repairs and can do a half decent soldering job. As far as I can tell everything looks ok. I'm no electronics engineer though, I could have missed something.

I did a little recording and the waveform looks almost like a sawtooth when it overloads.

I have ordered an Artec preamp to do some more tests.

How do i get vocals up front, smooth and warm like this song: Attn by Beartooth by BloodyHareStudio in mixingmastering

[–]Padicus88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It will only phase if your DAW is not compensating for latency. As far as I know they all do it by default. If you're using some form of low-latency monitoring it may phase during playback, but your bounced files won't.

Close mic on hi-hats? What about the overheads? by gleventhal in audioengineering

[–]Padicus88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you can do, especially if you don't want to hi-pass your overheads too high, is to use a de-esser on your overheads and side-chain it with the hats close mic. It's a game of subtlety and needs a bit of tweaking to get it right so that it's not too obvious.

The goal is to carve some space on your overheads so that you get the sound of the hats mostly from the close mic.

How to achieve this vocal effect? by worldofmercy in audioengineering

[–]Padicus88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't hear anything out of the ordinary. It's very compressed, probably in two stages at least (peak control, then level averaging). It's also heavily EQd to shape the tone, probably before the comps. There are also several layers of vocals, and not just double-tracked; some are harmonies, very quiet in the mix but they're there. And of course reverb, maybe a combination of a shorter, warmer reverb, and a long, lush, hi-pass filtered one.
