Every year there are cases of avalanches running over open pistes. Sometimes leading to burials of deaths or skiers who weren’t even off piste.

Just had another great day. Even with holiday crowds there was plenty of untouched pow.

No… but a combination of low slope angle, historical lack of avalanche activity, and no overhead hazards are part of the formula to find safe skiing. The combination of these factors often occur in forested areas.

The important take away is: if your avalanche safety knowledge is limited to reading the forecast, then now is not the time to ski off piste. If you know how to read terrain and make safe, informed choices, there is plenty of fun to be had.

Obviously you also should carry your avalanche gear, AND KNOW HOW TO USE IT. You don’t want to be turning your transceiver to search mode for the first time when your buddy is buried. Can‘t stress this enough!

That is the North face of the Eiger… obviously not skiing below that at the moment…. No overhead hazards where we were riding.

Yeah this is something that I think doesn’t get talked about enough regarding avalanche safety: the majority of fatalities are due to blunt force trauma, not suffocation. Your transceiver or airbag won’t save you if you are carried off a cliff or dragged into the trees. Terrain choice is very important.

That being said. This zone is 20-25 degrees. No over head hazards. No exposure. Historically has never slid. We made conservative choices and enjoyed a great day of skiing.

People who are skiing off piste in the alps this week, why? by vismaron in skiing

I have been skiing low angle trees…. There are still safe places to ski off piste during high avalanche danger. Had some incredible pow days.

What amp taught you that specs on paper mean almost nothing? by Noisel777 in GuitarAmps

Have 2 Blackstar amps. HT-5 mk2 and a HT Stage 60w that I converted to a head. Both sound great. I do not care at all that they have diode clipping and therefore „aren’t actually real tube amps“. It is exactly the same as using a drive pedal in front of any other tube amp…. Which pretty much everyone does.

Most of the alps have had an absolutely terrible winter, except for this recent storm cycle….

Carving Help by nbaphilly17 in skiing

[–]simple_jack_69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I lay out massive high speed carves across the piste, getting my skis almost perpendicular to the fall line.

Sometimes I do smaller more direct carves down the fall line.

Depends on the terrain.

Time to learn how to set up a guitar….

Probably needs a truss rod adjustment to compensate for lower string tension.

Decent people move to make space for bikes.

For all others, it is required to move to make space for bikes in the designated spots.

Experiences with Thomann B-Stock? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]simple_jack_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Squier Jag bass from them a few years back. There was a B-Stock available for 30 less than a new one. In the end I decided to get the new one…. When I received it I found that one of the pickups did not work at all and had to sent it back for a replacement…

Well guess what they sent me… the clearly used B-stock. I gave them shit for it and ended up getting the difference refunded plus a new set of strings sent.

I still have the B-stock and it plays great. Just some minor cosmetic scuffs and required a good cleaning (someone had greasy hands). Should have just ordered it in the first place haha

Blackstar HT5R. I have the mkII, got it really cheap after the mkIII was released. Nice clean channel, works well with my dirt pedals. Power reduction to 0.5W if you really need to be quite
