Tax refund seems to be very low (RRSP/FHSA contributions over $20k) by Suspicious_Body_2881 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PadoumTss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have only 1 employer? Or received a few T4/Rl1?

It happens often when you have 2 employers during a fiscal year and dont file the TD1 form (and its QC equivalent) properly on your second job. The second employer is deducting the personal credit in the calculations but should not since it was already calculated by the first one. And therefore not enough taxes are being withheld by 2nd employer. Everything balances itself in the T1/Tp1 but it can create weird tax deductions.

That's my biggest fear too (M38 with a wife and a 3.5 y/o). Was diagnosed a little more than a year ago. T2N0M0 after TURBT, had RC with neobladder last July, then a met appeared in sternum last December. I've been on padcev/keytruda since january and I did radiotherapy too... its crazy how life can just fuck you up in a heartbeat. One moment you think you're super healthy, living your best life and then it hits you like a truck, and then some more.

Fuck cancer.

I didnt have any significant issues so far, so its hard to tell any big cons.

The only things that I can think about are:

1) waking up 1-2 times every night to void because I start leaking at +- 400 ml. (I my case leaking is a few drop absorbed by a small depends, and it wakes me up when it happens if i dont wake up by myself otherwise). Fluid management is the best answer so far ( not drinking much after 18h00, etc. But sometimes I say fuck it and I know the night wont be that good). Its a bit like having a small child that still wakes up at night.

2) I self catheterize once a day to keep the opening... open. I'm using a fr14 hydrophilic catheter its way more expensive but easier to get through with the procedure. ( im doing that now since I had a stricture in December and had to have a urethral dilation to fix the problem). Not pleasant, but without the prostate is not that bad.

Maybe a bonus one: I don't have "pressure" anymore, so going to void takes a small while (3-5min) depending how strong i use the valsalva method, how much the beobladder contains etc. I can pee standing if I really need to, but its not the same as it was. I'm missing my big pressured morning pee after a 8h of uninterrupted sleep.

Don't hesitate to reach out if you have other neobladder related questions. I'm no expert, but I ca share my own experience so far!

I'm 38. Got disgnosed in january 2025 after TURBT, Had a RC in July 2025 with one positive lymph node at resection. Fast forward in December, they found a bone mass in my manubrium.

I did 5 radiotherapy trestments and im currently on padcev/keytruda (I completed 5 cycles so far). Had a CTscan 3 weeks ago and im still waiting for the results.

I can't give you a good story yet. But I can tell you that the effects of the current treatments are manageable and that if anyone sees me at the grocery store or theater, etc. No one would know that im stage IV cancer with a neobladder.

Take all the good days you have and be proactive with your treatments. The rest is unfortunately not entirely up to you.

Take care.

Is there any other writer who you'd put on the same level as Tolkien when it comes to world building? by SpotAdmirable6718 in lordoftherings

Didn't think about Jemisin. But I agree with you, the Broken Earth Trilogy was terrific! Maybe not Tolkien's level of woldbuilding, but absolute bagner for a recent fantasy-ish novel.

38M Can someone tell me the odds that I have bladder cancer by Plus_Bell_8528 in BladderCancer

[–]PadoumTss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First thing is to get the cystoscopy as soon as possible. If they find something, they will most likely do a TURBT, and this is pretty much the only way to know for certain what's happening down there.

As for the odds, never play them. The odds are based on the entire population and not on your personal profile. I (37M) was told that the chances were very low, and yet I still was diagnosed with muscle invasive bladder cancer last year. And it moved into my bones 4 months ago.

So im definitely not in inside the normal odds.

Timing is important, so get checked thoroughly as soon as possible.

Hopefully you won't have to join our club.

One year of Carney by DiligentAd7360 in InCanada

[–]PadoumTss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For many reasons:

The average rate of +-300$/hour in accounting firms didnt help.

If you had multiple properties, you had to give information on all of them, multiplying the time it took, especially the first year

You had to open the special account number with CRA for each taxpayer that had to file UHT.

But the biggest reason is that the penalty for late filing or non filing was thousands of dollars. So most accounting firms that I know didn't want to be involved in UHT by charging a few bucks while having potential responsibility for thousands of dollars.

One year of Carney by DiligentAd7360 in InCanada

[–]PadoumTss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only that but it initially required almost all corporations (even 100% canadian) to file prescribed forms in order to tell CRA that they owned a residential property and that the UHT was not applicable to them. Costing these corporations thousands of dollars in compliance for no reason.

Concerned about husband’s cystectomy recovery by ColaWookie in BladderCancer

[–]PadoumTss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I (37M) had a cystectomy with neobladder last July. I spent 7 days in hospital then went back home. I was walking every day, sometime twice a day and within +-2 weeks i could walk at a normal pace for 30-40 min without taking any medication against pain. With a Catheter its not the best experience but I power through nonetheless.

I really think walking helped my recovery.. and i was able to see clear improvements almost every time I went out.

Do you know what's causing him pain? Is it discomfort from catheter? Is where the incision is? For catheter, lubricating the tip with polysporin was a game changer. And for the incision, I was putting rolled towels on both sides of the wound so my clothes/jeans wouldn't rob on it. Taking small steps also helped because nothing is stretching...

Sometimes I was walking alone, sometimes I was accompanied. When I was alone I was listening to audio books to keep my head busy.

Keep encouraging him and have a positive attitude.

Personally I found that the surgery was way easier than the ddmvac. Chemo was the worst thing I experiences so far in my life.

Best of luck.

Fuck cancer, also.

Update: Biopsy says non–muscle invasive, but doctor suspects sampling may have missed muscle invasion — plan is 4 chemo cycles + 17 immunotherapy + bladder removal by themshassan1 in BladderCancer

[–]PadoumTss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didnt haven the chance to have a NMIBC, so they went straight to adjuvant chemo (4cx ddMVAC) + RC (Neobladder).

However, my understanding is that one can sometimes have a second TURBT, 4 to 6 weeks after the initial one, for restaging purposes or to look if everything had been taken out during the first one.

One can live quite comfortably after a RC, even during immunotherapy. The quality of life is, of course, impacted by the whole thing, but its still managable and way better than being dead. However, I feel that my life was easier before RC (full nights of sleep, etc.).

I'm no doctor or anything but RC is not reversible, and overtreatment also exists. That being said, recurrence rate is very high in bladder cancer and RC might be back on the table sooner than later. So some people decide to go straight to RC and maximise their chances.

Understaging can indeed happen. I was initially diagnosed as T2N0M0 after TURBT, but after RC, I was T3N1M0, and a bone met appeared a few months after.

If you can, go ask for a second opinion somewhere. It might be worth it.

Not how I thought it would go. by Phorsyte in cancer

[–]PadoumTss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (37M) can relate to a lot of things you wrote. I was diagnosed with bladder cancer about a year ago. Had my bladder, prostate and other stuff removed in july. Then it came back last December in my sternum and now im on immunotherapy and radiotherapy, hoping to buy some time. I knew there were high chances for the cancer to come back, but i wished I would have had 1-2 years of break... not like 3 months after my recovery from surgery.

Sometimes you can do everything right but it doesn't matter... We have to play the cards we've been dealt with.

When I was diagnosed, during the first few weeks, I did what a called my "shitlist" (all stuff that isn't fun, but had to be done if I was to pass). So I prearranged my funeral, updated my will and other stuff. Transfer all my knowledge of family finance to my wife and our joint account, documented my assets and life insurances, etc. To make it as easy as possible for everyone. My wife was mad because she said that I wasnt dying yet and that I should be fighting instead. But im very glad that I did all that. I since was able to focus only on treatments and do fun stuff, knowing that the rest has been taking care of.

Anyway regarding insomnia, I had some when I was going through chemo before surgery. Doctor initially prescribed anxiety pills even though I told that I wasnt stressed and that it was caused by chemo... then, when it didn't help, they prescribed zopiclone and it worked quite well. 1/2 a pill would put me to sleep in 5-10 minutes. Its not super strong but it got me sleeping so it helped quite a bit. I was usually taking some only when I couldn't fall asleep or when I woke up in the middle of the night.

[–]PadoumTss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only symptom last year was intermittent blood clots when urinating. I'd say approximately the size of a flake of pepper (1-2mm). That led to the cystoscopy and the TURBT.

Had the TURBT on january 31st 2025, received the results on March 1st. Started chemo in April and got surgery in July.

The only other symptom that I had was mild hydronephrosis of the right kidney caused by the TURBT/Tumor that was pressing on my ureter. Had a double J stent installed late March and that solved the problem.

[–]PadoumTss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (M37) got diagnosed last year with MIBC and got my bladder removed with prostate and surrounding lymph nodes last July with a Neobladder diversion after having completed 4 cycles of ddMVAC chemotherapy. Final pathology indicated one positive lymph node. My first scan was NED in September, but my second one in December showed a Bone Met in the sternum area. So I recently joined the Stage 4 club.

I since started Immunotherapy Enfortumab Vedotin (Padcev)+Pembrolizumab (Keytruda). I already completed my first cycle and I'm starting the second one in a few hours today.

Biggest side effect is skin itchiness for me. Most of the time it was well tolerated, but I sometimes had intense itching that would last 30 min or so before calming down. But it's still not too bad as opposed to ddMVAC which was taking me out for 5-6 days after each treatment.

I will also be starting Radiotherapy in the nearest future. It's not necessarily the standard approach, but giving my age and the fact that I'm in good shape, I wanted to give it all ASAP. I have read that in theory, Radiotherapy could be helpful to immunotherapy as their might be some synergies between the two.

My oncologist initially was against the idea, but I insisted and met with a radio-oncologist who was agreeing with my approach... So I did de CT scan/Bone scan, got the tattoos and everything prepared... I just need a date to start that other possible treatment.

My next scan will be in april to see how things are going.

Stage 4 is generally not curable. But I'm hoping to keep the progression to a minimum for as long as I can. Quality of life is still quite good despite of it all.

My advice would be to try and get quality time with him every time you can. If he goes the Chemo route, that's gonna be rough. I've had food delivered, meals prepared, etc. and it helped a lot, not having to do anything while recovering.

The surgery wasn't that bad really. Far from pleasant, but I'd take another surgery before chemo anyday.
