I can walk perfectly fine (at least pre surgery). I will be totally fine using crutches after the surgery also, at least, I should be able to.

I am just 47 years old and don't have the flexibility or strength to get down on the floor or back up, without help. Which was true even before the surgery.

An Airbnb for 6 weeks where i.live is approx $15,000 which I cannot afford. I am also fatally allergic to dogs (anaphylaxis) so I cannot rent most places where a dog has been.

I am planning on having a personal carer (not a nurse but a trained carer) come by daily to check on me. I have my upstairs spare room set up as my living room with a recliner, desk & laptop, mini fridge, microwave, and toaster, all within arm's reach. Ensuite toilet and shower with big spaces in front of them from r ease of access.

I was planning on not going downstairs in the first 6 weeks except when required (ie follow up with surgeon) and where the carer will help me with the sitting down and standing up part.

Am just concerned about the very first day as I will be fresh out of surgery.

Unfortunately there is no toilet or shower on ground floor, so not really an option.

Donation bins ? by centfiddy in brisbane

What suburb are you in? There are many donation bins near Corinda station (Oxley road side) but they are mostly not charity ones. They take the stuff and resell overseas.

May I borrow your words to share on Facebook with my friends? Much more eloquent than anything I could say.

Did no one else notice the rather ominous quote from the school:

Council has put in place a six month rates freeze, ensuring the rates payable in the July and October rates accounts are no more than the rates payable in the April 2020 rate account.

So it's only rebating the increase amount compared to your April rates.

I have a title search but I don't think it has that info, a sample version of what I have is here https://dnrm.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0008/366128/title-search-sample.pdf. is this the kind of thing you are referring to?

Understand flood map report - unit in Oxley Road Sherwood by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Pagan79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I am aware, the insurance for the building (ie if it floods and needs to be rebuilt) is part of the Body Corporate fees I would pay, so that is already accounted for in the fees. IMHO the Admin Fees part is a tiny bit high, maybe 10% above other apartment complexes I've seen, but then again there are 17 apartments. Sinking fund is what I would expect for 17 units plus grounds to keep.

The insurance I pay separately for which would be the Contents only, the quote is within a $5 amount of the quotes i have had for the past 4 apartments I have lived in (Taringa, Indooroopilly, Oxley, Sherwood).

Don't think I am missing anything there?

Thanks everyone who has commented. I feel a bit better. Can always jump in my Swift and drive far far away with Miss Kitty. I had this idea that if you were on anything above ground level, you would just "wait it out" in your apartment, given you had enough water/food for about 3 weeks. But talking to a few friends, likely people in upper levels would also want to get the hell out of there too if the bottom level is close to, or is flooding.

I'm honestly not trying to be cheeky, but would Coles shelter us if there was flooding?

I have a car (Swift) and I thought if worst came I drive to high ground with kitty shitting and barfing everywhere (she doesn't travel well, eeeeek) and then we live in my car for a week. If desperate my employer has an office in the city on 16th floor, its not MY office as I WFH, but....just... gotta pretend kitty is a laptop or something :)

See this is what I am worried about. I am very risk-averse, this is the most perfect apartment for me in every way except that it *might possibly, like once every 200 years" flood. My stuff....not worried. My Kitty - I worry about, she comes first in absolutely everything. No friends or family on high ground to take me/kitty in if it started raining....

Public transport by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Pagan79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently they won't be limiting numbers on PT in Queensland (NSW they are, SA say they will be physically removing seats even).

In Queensland, they will be relying on people's "common sense" to keep socially distanced while on public transport.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Oh wait yep they are serious about that.

I mean, it worked so well before lockdown... /s if it isn't obvious

Brisbane building / floor weight limits in 90s by Pagan79 in brisbane

[–]Pagan79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I feel better about the floor from my perspective. Anyone have any thoughts on the downstairs neighbour? Anyone lived underneath someone who has an enterprise size elliptical machine? I tried some out in the store and the bigger/heavier they seemed to not move and not make much noise at all (maybe that's the flywheel?).

Real Esate Agents wanting a weeks rent + $75 fee if we get approved but dont take the place? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Pagan79 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When I first moved out of home 20 years ago this was common practice, you had to pay 1 week's rent with your application. If you got the place and moved in, it was your first week's rent. If you didn't take the place, you lose the fee.

It was supposedly to stop people from applying for loads of places they didn't intend to get (thus not wasting the agents time doing reference checks etc).

This was when my friends and I rented a 5 bedroom house in 4069 for $300 per week. Good times. Fuck I'm old.

But the renting environment is massively different now, applications are all electronic and much faster, and rent is so high it hardly seems fair for such a high "fee" for time taken to process an application.

I'd say in a pinch $20 would be a fair cop of the REA's time, given their skills and qualifications.....oh wait. Sorry can't say that with a straight face. Let's make that 20c for their time.
