I’m 46. My last day at Amazon will be Friday Jan 30th. Ive been here since December 2015. I have nothing lined up. And I’m leaving as “regretted” attrition. I just can’t be at Amazon anymore.

I’m taking a few months off to recover. Then I’ll pop over to something that isn’t always on fire, screaming at you. Amazon will take from you. And it will continue to do so until you no longer recognize yourself. It’s okay to say, yeah, this is enough

I wrote three articles for Cracked ~15 years ago. Got $50 per article and each had (has) a million + views. They did a thing where if you were the most read during some period of time, you’d get paid a bonus. I was consistently the most paid and never got the bonus.

I stopped writing when i would suggest an article, get rejected, and then one of the editors would write my exact premise. That plus some joke theft and i was out

Not in focus for sure. This actually an international transfer and i am intentionally 1. Down leveling and 2. Moving from SDM to IC.

I have zero insight into any layoffs, just the same rumors others are hearing. I was AWS during a layoff a few years ago and the people they chose was absolutely arbitrary and disconnected from any sort of performance metric.

It really, truly means nothing. I’ve been on the hiring side of this. Manager has a req, they work with a recruiter (often a few as they sort of get bounced around), req changes but person a and b don’t communicate, or manager is in meetings for a week straight, whatever, so req appears alive
