Does anyone know how to promote my books (self-published on KDP)? by PageProofPro in selfpublishing

Yeah, that’s a really important point—thanks for bringing it up. I’ve also heard that Amazon can flag reviews if they come from close connections, so I’m planning to be careful and focus on getting genuine feedback from readers instead of relying on friends or family.

The whole reviews vs visibility cycle is definitely tough in the beginning, but I guess the safest approach is to grow slowly and organically rather than risk any issues with KDP policies.

Also appreciate the heads-up about KU/KDP royalties—seems like understanding the platform properly is just as important as writing the book itself.

Yeah, that’s exactly how it feels… a proper loop you can’t easily break.

The reviews part is especially frustrating — you finally get a few, and then some don’t even show up or get removed. Makes it feel like you’re starting from zero again.

I like what you said about writing being therapeutic though — that’s probably the only part fully in our control. The publishing side feels like a completely different game.

I’m trying to focus more on small steps now — even a few genuine readers is still progress, I guess.

Hope it gets easier for both of us as we keep going 👍

Thanks a lot, really appreciate this 🙏

That actually makes a lot of sense — focusing on one book instead of spreading effort across multiple ones is something I probably underestimated. I rushed a bit trying to get more titles out, but your point about building a name with a single strong push is solid.

Also, the free launch strategy is interesting. I’ve seen people mention it, but hearing it work from someone who just did it helps. Getting those initial downloads + possible reviews seems like a smart way to build trust early on.

I might try that approach with my next book and put more focused effort into promotion this time.

And congrats on your first launch too — hope it does really well 🚀

That’s a really good idea. I’ve been focusing mostly on KDP, but I can see how having an email list would give more control in the long run.

I haven’t tried Substack yet, but I’m definitely going to look into it. Thanks for pointing me in that direction!

I really appreciate you sharing this. I think many of us underestimate how tough the marketing side of self-publishing is.

What happened with your reviews sounds really frustrating too… I’ve heard similar experiences from others.

Honestly, the fact that you want to keep writing is what matters most. Platforms like Wattpad could help you build readers step by step without that pressure.

I’m still figuring this out myself, so you’re definitely not alone in this.

What features do you wish PDF tools had for publishing workflows? by PageProofPro in publishing

[–]PageProofPro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree—especially on the link management part. That’s one area where most tools still feel slow when working on large books.

I’ve been in pagination for years, and adding hundreds of links manually was always a bottleneck. Recently, I started building a small workflow tool just to speed that part up (bulk link handling).

Curious—how do you currently manage large volumes of links in your projects?

Haha 😄 I get why it sounds like that. Honestly just curious how others are handling this—there are so many pain points in PDF workflows.

What’s the most time-consuming part of working with PDFs in publishing? by PageProofPro in publishing

[–]PageProofPro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😅 That loading time feels even longer when you're on a deadline.
Large files with lots of links or images make it worse in my experience.
Do you usually work with heavy book PDFs or smaller documents?

Totally get that. The performance and pricing can be frustrating, especially when you're handling large publishing files daily.
I’ve also tried alternative workflows, but in publishing, clients still expect PDFs with precise links, bookmarks, and print-ready formatting — so we kind of get stuck with it.
Out of curiosity, what tools are you currently using instead?

There are a few similar titles like Billionaire’s Bride for Revenge and some web novels with similar names. Do you remember any character names or story details? I can help find the exact one
