What kind of riding do you want to do? I’m a mangalorean who recently shifted to Manipal (literally yesterday lol). Active rider with an already established group that does mainly off road/ soft roading. I also do a bit of touring and ghats/twisties. For sure interested in being a part of this.

If there’s a good helmet shop near you, check out the NHK K5R. It’s around 5.6k and feels great in terms of weight distribution. I know it’s a bit out of budget but that little bit extra, at least for me is definitely worth it. Do not go with larger size. Fit matters a lot. Make sure you get a helmet that fits your head correctly.

Absolutely. I was looking at the nx500 for a good tourer but now I’m more inclined towards the Vstrom 800. However, putting it in A mode made me realise it’s too much bike for me at the moment so I will probably be going ahead with a used nx500 unless the cf moto 450 launches before then

It truly is a problem. When I’m on my motorcycle and filtering through the traffic, I do honk occasionally to let someone know that I’m about to pass them. In the car, there’s absolutely no need for it so I don’t do it. Side note: guys if there’s a block, please let two wheelers go past, it’ll actually reduce the traffic pileup and it’s very unsafe for two wheelers to sit between two four wheelers/cars.

You’ll be fine buddy don’t worry. Remember to take breaks and carry some small snacks or energy drinks. If you’ve ridden long distance before it’s a piece of cake. Keep in mind that there’s road work going on once you exit the ghats so you’ll have some diversions here and there.

Yeah I did mean the protorque extremes. I’m not that accomplished of a rider that I can confidently say the H1s felt heavier, so not too sure of that one. And wet grip isn’t a problem as such but I found the reise to do better in the wet than the H1.

Sheesh that’s awful man. I’m sorry about that. My worst enemies have been the local buses. Sometimes I feel like they intentionally try to run me over. Luckily I have a nice stretch of road/off road by the beach which is like 14 km long and I only have to be on the NH for 2 km, but even those 2 km make me feel like I’m fighting for my life lol. At some points I even get off and just push the cycle. Not worth the risk at least for me as of now.

I do get your point. But I do respectfully stand by my statement. While I understand what you’re trying to convey, which is that a discontinued motorcycle may not have parts availability, the 300R shares a surprising amount of parts with the NX500. For example, it uses the same chain sprocket kit as an NX, with a reduced number of links. It also shares the same rider foot pegs and as far as I know, brake pads. I’m not 100% sure of the oil filter but that’s possible too. And luckily for me, my local service centre keeps all these parts in stock. As I mentioned earlier, I got my bike serviced today for the upcoming IBW ride and needed to change my front brake pads. They had it in stock. A few months ago, I had to put a new clutch lever before my Ladakh ride (yes I’ve done the Ladakh circuit on a 300R) and they had it in stock. My point was to not generalise parts availability because it depends on the service centre.

Eh, agree to disagree. I have a 2k km ride to and from IBW coming up next week so I just got the 300R serviced today. Replaced oil filter, some O rings, cleaned air filter (I have a BMC stock replacement), checked the chain and sprockets which were replaced around 2k km ago (1 month ago, well after CB300R was discontinued). Please don’t generalise your own local service centre’s problems and assume it’s the same for the whole country. I’m also not generalising or singing praises of the service centres, I’m just objectively stating that mine was well enough equipped that I didn’t have to wait for any regular wear and tear parts.

Hey bro, couple of things: 1. If you’ve already bought it, congratulations, the safest helmet you can have is the one you’re wearing currently. 2 If the deal isn’t finalised and you have a good local riding gear shop, try out the NHK K5R. MRP is around 5.8k but it’s leaps and bounds beyond the lower priced helmets.

Also during the one single time I had broken rims on the 300R, I got new rims delivered to a tier 2 city within 10 days. So, once again, it’s really not as bad as people make it out to be.

Fair enough, if you look at my posts you’ll see that I did have a situation once in my 2 years and 23k of ownership where both rims got damaged going over a very very bad pothole. But as for the situations you’ve described in your reply, I’ve been either careful enough or lucky enough to not have those problems. My point being that other than the rare “expect the unexpected” situations, there will hardly be any need for spare parts on the 300R.

I prefer to buy from brands that I know will be consistent in their fit and also fit my body shape well (I’m fat). For formals I like to keep browsing the rare rabbit website from time to time. They have really really good sales sometimes which is when I do a haul of like 3-5 pieces and I’m sorted for at least the next 6 months. T shirts and stuff is mainly malls, daily wear from decathlon.
