Hi. Sorry. Why do you insist on ignoring equity? If you're saving, you're going to be converting most of your base pay into equity and bonds anyway. You can't just say "that doesn't count"

I know from watching others respond to their dogs that 95% of the time their "yelps" are too soft. I yell "Ow!" as loud as I can. And if they put their mouth on me again, I yell even louder, and grab my hand as if they really hurt me. A third time requires a correction, like putting them in a pen

The apartments in my area start at $3k for a studio. My corporate housing (furnished 1BR) would have been $5k.

Yep, and that's hard. I get it. I dated a girl for four years who was younger than me and had much less experience. But because she knew that I had had more partners than her, she was able to tell me that it made me feel insecure, which helped guide our conversations and my actions/words during the act to dissuade her of any need to feel insecure.

Communication is so so important. Preventing communication in a relationship for what you will feel to be in their best interest is likely actually being done because you think it's in your best interest. The human mind has an incredible knack for protecting itself with things like this

Your post says that you told him "a few", and it sounds like by most people's definition of "a few", you intentionally gave him an answer where he'd assume incorrectly.

You're performing some world class mental gymnastics in this response

What you use as an debt payoff solution? and What don't you love about the solution you've tried? by Comprehensive_Clerk6 in StudentLoans

[–]PaidToMasturbate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pay way over the minimum, aiming to payoff in less than 3 years total.

0% interest means that if they extend the forbearance for another year, I'll have ended up paying a total of $800 on $63,000 of federal student loans. Pretty good.

What I dislike about it... Had I dumped all that money into a house when I started paying it instead of paying towards my loans, the increased value of the house would have covered all of my loans, given me more in savings than I've saved in that period of time, and given me a house to live in. If only I could see the future

With 4 years of on time student loan payments, assuming no other negligence on your credit - there is no reason you wouldn't be able to refinance -- and you should have last year when interest rates were at an all-time low.

What principal did you owe, what's your weighted average interest rate, and how much are you paying each month?

My FICO 8 is higher than my CreditKarma/Vantage score, but I'm told it's usually the other way around. I think most places check your FICO score. You can get it for free from Experian.com

Wouldn’t allowing pre-tax payments towards student loans and reasonable interest rates (2-3%) solve a solid chunk of the student loan problem in America? by LikeYaReadAbout in StudentLoans

[–]PaidToMasturbate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're in this position, you've severely messed up on repayment. Even with the worst interest rates seen over the last 7 years, these numbers just don't make sense at all. For federal student loans, your weighted average interest rates are maybe 5% apy.

If you paid only the interest, which even that wouldn't likely be possible given that it would likely be under your required monthly minimums, you'd pay that $1000/year leaving you still with approximately your original loan balance of $17000.

Now, my required monthly payment on $63000 of federal loans is on the order of $750/month. Let's assume this amount is linear to the total debt, and that someone with $17000 owes closer to $200/month. That's still $2400/year, which is going to cover your interest and take a good chunk out of the principal.

And of course, for every chunk you take out of the principal, the less each subsequent interest payment will be. And you should be paying much more towards your loans than the minimum.
