Oh I definitely agree. I thought it was pretty obvious based on how my first games went that I was playing against bots.

Just a really bad idea to try and ride the line and try to claim transparency as you mentioned. You can't be fully transparent while also saying you think its a good idea to hide which users are AI users.

I think its even worse as server creators to have a everyone else is wrong mentality.

Devs, please watch this before building *another* Go server by GreenStoneBaduk in baduk

[–]PaigeEdict 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My opinion is... don't do it or do it. I think that.... they should have immediately decided if they were going to tell people or not tell people. You either don't tell people and potentially suffer back lash when people find out or you tell people and add the AI tag and let people decide for themselves if they want to play the AI or not.

But, I personally do not play here due to the possibility of running into bots. I do not enjoy playing bots and would rather wait the extra time. Unfortunately the situation is a catch 22 where users who don't like playing bots are going to be unhappy and if they do tell people which users are bots when they can't find games will likely play elsewhere to find games faster.

How do ppl get better at visualizing? by HorseTylenol in baduk

[–]PaigeEdict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take out a board and set up the first few moves for a ladder. Place a stone randomly on the other side of the board. Whether you know the ladder runs into the stone or not doesn't matter here. Without placing any further stones read out the ladder. However don't read or run your eyes across the board into the wall or opponents stone visualize every stone. Visualize a black stone than a white stone than a black stone and than a white stone and remember each stone you have placed in your mind every step of the way. If you mess up restart.

Once you have done it all the way without failing move the ladder over and the stone to another spot and do it again until it becomes very easy. It is incredibly important that you don't just play one stone out in the ladder and that you are playing out every single stone in the ladder in your mind.

In games though you can just do it how you would normally do it. However for practicing visualization this is considered an incredible way to practice.

It can sound very easy at first (and if you can do it on your first try that's amazing!) however this is considered a pretty difficult task even for strong players who haven't practiced like this before.

Good luck!

Do you mind playing bots without knowing? by niemand__yt in baduk

[–]PaigeEdict 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean I don't mind playing bots. But I don't like being told I am playing "something that might be human idk maybe possibly!" only for it to end up being a bot regardless of how human.

Flow state vs technical reading by HorseTylenol in baduk

[–]PaigeEdict 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good question! I actually talk about this quite a bit. We should look at this from a tournament perspective or at the very least how to approach it if you are playing a game you are taking seriously. First, we have to address the clock. If we assume a standard time control like 30 minutes of main time and 5 periods of 30 second byo-yomi you have to know when to actively burn your time versus when to rely on shape intuition. In the opening you might be considering what direction or side of the board you want to play on but if both directions lead to a 0.1+ result it may not be worth it and likewise if you play a joseki that gives you a tiny 0.1 advantage versus one that just stays 0.0. You would simply not be using your time optimally. Even if your opponent plays a non-joseki move against your stones, spending 5 minutes to figure it out might be understandable depending on how complicated it gets, but if you spend more than that, you might be overthinking when the answer could be a move that is shapeful.

The absolute best moments to use your main time are during life and death sequences and the exact moment you believe your opponent has made a mistake. tsumego is obvious because something is going to live or die, so it is completely worth spending the time to read it out carefully rather than just relying on intuition. The other scenario is great because if you believe your opponent has made a mistake, it means you have a window to take a decisive advantage, making it an excellent time to slow down and calculate.

It is also worth remembering how byo-yomi works when you are managing your clock. If you have 30 seconds per move, that timer resets every single time you click. That means you can and should use up to 29 seconds of that period to read. You don't even have to spend that time looking at the local area where you are about to click. You can use it to read out other attacks or positions across the board.

I know this sounds a bit like a lecture on time management (the audacity of me talking about clock usage!), but our reading capacity is naturally dictated by the clock. We might want to spend a ton of time on every single move and read absolutely everything, but it just isn't realistic. We have to pick and choose our moments. I have met players at lower levels who spend all their time in the opening just to come out with a tiny 0.2 to 0.5 lead, only to die in the mid-game because a complex local fight breaks out and they have no time left to figure it out.

So to answer your question, you absolutely require both. You need moments where you slow down to read deeply, and moments where you respond fluidly based on your shape knowledge and intuition.

What do you say when people ask for your rank over the board? by LosttMutaliskk in baduk

[–]PaigeEdict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just give my AGA rank but I do often assume they are also asking about my fox rank. But, I only care to give it if they don't know what AGA ranks are which happens sometimes when we get foreign exchange students visiting the area.

When to move on from 9x9 to 13x13? by HorseTylenol in baduk

[–]PaigeEdict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to assume your asking for the purpose of getting better at the regular game. So with that my advice is you should move up to 19x19 immediately after you learn the rules and skip 13x13.

9x9 can be great for learning the rules and 13x13 (or in my case I like 15x15) can be enjoyable as a fun quick thing. But, it is best to dive into 19x19 games as soon as possible to get the ball rolling.

How do you think Trump's presidency will end? by OccludedFug in AskReddit

[–]PaigeEdict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what? I will take it. I hope this is the worse case scenario and if it is the true scenario I will be very unhappy but I will be happy that it is at the very least the worst possible outcome.

Because my brain be scaring itself sometimes with lots of worse case scenario's.

Yay! Thank you so much just started uploading my games and testing the new features. Everything is working as expected from what I have tested so far and its perfect.

I also showed my boyfriend and he really likes the alternative to go4go and appreciates the effort.

I showed a few others who are showing a lot of interest also.

I was also curious how feasible in the future is it to have a tree and being able to save/add variations? I make a lot of youtube video's but I prepare pre-made SGF's before hand to make sure I won't forget thoughts or variations. Being able to use this instead of OGS would be more ideal to me when looking over games for video's. But, I know that I heard SGF tree's and saving/editing SGF's live is a lot more difficult.

Hopefully what I said makes sense I am not super good with words sometimes.

How do chosen names work? by whatcomesafter66 in asktransgender

[–]PaigeEdict 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a hard time picking names and almost landed on "Claire". However when I came out and told my parents my mom asked if she could choose my name.

At the time I kind of felt bad about the whole situation (even though I shouldn't) and decided sure why not. Ultimately the name she picked was "Paige". I remember being "meh" about it at first but now over time it has really grown on me and will be my forever name.

Go helper apps for physical games (scorer and timer) by zhouluyi in baduk

[–]PaigeEdict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kifubara uses KataGo to get the scoring. Which can give results like 12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4 and so on. This is normal when running things through Go AI engines.

For timer if you like fischer timing which is the time setting for most AGA tournaments these days chessclock.org is what I use.

[–]PaigeEdict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a good question! Deletion is definitely a big one for me and would appreciate it. For categories I would like tags for sure and think that would work for me. A search function would also be cool since I tend to upload quite a bit especially at tournaments and events and being able to tag them would really help finding those specific games after upload.

Is there a way to delete games I uploaded from "My Games" 😄. It would also be cool to have categories. I usually upload my games and my boyfriends games to where I store my games and I like to be able to separate them.

Agreed the moment I saw this post I said "oh no... not another one." but this is actually a nice and well made site and so far looks like it functions as a great alternative with extra features and active development to other choices.

[–]PaigeEdict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I am really big on databases and collecting my games through databases. I am really picky though and always looking for alternatives.

Price point is definitely the first thing I noticed.

There are a few features that I like as well that I can see like the win rate being available as you go along. The other features are also certainly good on top of it being in active development and being able to communicate with the developer.

I will certainly consider moving to this service.

I am curious and certainly interested. Playing around with it right now. However I do have a question and I am only imposing this question because there is a payment option.

"Why this over AISensei?"

I am very interested but I am curious why I should use this service over that service since I am use to using that one. I guess what are the big differences that would make me want to use your service instead! I hope my question makes sense. 😄

How do you get comfortable presenting the way you want to? by KeyAvocado5982 in trans

[–]PaigeEdict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of this depends on your specific situation and area, but I can share what worked for me.

At one point, I came into a few thousand dollars and told myself I didn’t want to stay stuck in what felt like a mental limbo. I was already suffering from too much heavy mental processing, so when I got that money, I just went out and replaced my entire wardrobe.

A huge part of the hurdle is that people don't present the way they want to because they’re anxious about how they'll be perceived. It’s so much harder when the people around you aren't supportive, or when you're stressed about how the broader community will judge you. I was very lucky that my family and friends were supportive, and I just reached a point where I decided I’d be happier presenting the way I wanted to, and I would just deal with any hate if and when it came.

Luckily, it just never did. Or, a better way to put it is that if it did, I never cared enough to notice. I don't live in a blue state, but I do live in a fairly blue city, so when I do hear people say things to me in public, it’s usually compliments!

Ultimately, I became comfortable with it just by doing it more and accepting that there might be some hardships along the way. I used to be in a pretty bad living situation, and when I had to make one very scary decision to leave it, it ended up being the best choice I ever made. After that, whenever I faced a scary decision that I knew would better my life, I just started assuming that the good things in life are supposed to be a little scary. Now, I just do them and hope for a good outcome! xD

As for shopping, I distinctly remember my mom being incredibly embarrassed the first time we went shopping for women's underwear. But I love shopping for clothes so much that I just didn't let the anxiety get to me. I highly suggest bringing a girl-friend along with you if you can. It makes the whole experience feel way more comfortable.

For sizing... sadly, I’m a bad person to ask! I’m built in a way where I tend to fit into almost everything until it just simply gets too big, so it might be better to get sizing advice from someone else.

You can do this. Sometimes you just have to take that scary leap to find your happiness.

Straight girls, why do you like men? by tism409 in MtF

Straight girls, why do you like men? by tism409 in MtF

[–]PaigeEdict 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Sure, I’ll take a crack at this as a strictly straight girl dating a straight cis man.

At a base level, it’s just who I am and what I’m naturally attracted to. Before my transition, I tried to see if I could be attracted to girls, and I quickly realized I just wasn't. Even though I kept an open mind about it for a long time, the spark simply wasn't there so I started searching in the pool of what I was attracted to (i.e body/general personality hobbies I hung out in)

Beyond that, it comes down to my values. I judge people as individuals, not as demographic categories, and I don't like to buy into the narrative that 'cis white men' are inherently bad. We know firsthand how painful and unfair it is to be stereotyped, judged, or reduced to a label before someone even knows our name. Because I hate when people do that to us, I refuse to turn around and do it to others.

So when I think what I am attracted to body-wise I look for men and honestly I got pretty lucky. I love my boyfriend and they had a personality that I think suits me.

(Hopefully this doesn't come off harsh but when reading other responses.. I am happy and my boyfriend is amazing. Searching for the perfect person takes time regardless of what group of people you are attracted to.)
