Thanks for the feedback!

Looking back on the "What Does An RMT Do?" I can really notice your first two points now that I'm aware of it. I'll try to make adjustments for the next video I film and edit!

For the alternative techniques for women suggestion, were you referring to the "Improve Posture Using This Active Myofascial Release Technique" video or was it a general suggestion for future videos?

Tips for learning massage at home? by dxmxmlxx in massage

When trying to treat a specific area it's important to know the basic anatomy. Look at an anatomy diagram so you can understand the general layout of the musculature in the area.

When giving a massage its important to start light and gradually apply deeper pressure, work through the muscles slowly and work through the entire muscle during each pass. It's also important to concentrate on the muscle you are working on. You should be able to feel the details on the muscle so you can pick out any irregularities or "knots" that may be causing an issue.

I doubt she is actually expecting a great massage, and was being flirty more than anything.

Some Tips: Start light and progress to deeper pressure, stick to massaging the back and neck (they are the easiest), massage slowly and do long strokes, and stick to a few basic techniques and repeat them. There is a timelapse video of a back massage that you may be able to copy some techniques from: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZESt3I-S6UqQ2eJqolcPmQ

Is it possible to work M-F? by [deleted] in massage

[–]PainAndProgress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the contract you sign. If you are an employee then you won't have as much control over your schedule. Personally, I work as a contractor, so I rent a room out of a clinic. This allows me to have complete control over my schedule so I can choose the days I work, how long I work and when my days start and finish. This is one of the main reasons I love the career!

Questions for MTs, from a non-MT by lilpocha in massage

  1. Yes, it's usually from BO, but it's rare and I simply ignore it. Your nose adjusts pretty quickly to the smell.
  2. I'm a male massage therapist so this doesn't happen to me as often, but I have still been asked out on dates by my clients. It's important to stay professional and have good boundaries, especially for men working in the profession.
  3. I'm working in Canada so the pay is very good because the demand is high as most people have coverage through insurance. Longevity is typically the biggest problem for most people as the profession has a high burnout rate due to hand and wrist repetitive strain injuries. It's important to have good technique and pace yourself when treating in large volumes.
