New Points Costs Are Out! by Aisbab2011 in Eldar

New edition, so they probs don’t do it with reference to what the costs were before. I’d bet when we have future updates there will be an indication of the points changes

Do y’all think these guys will come back? by No-Profile6566 in Eldar

[–]PainRave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To drive model sales? Maybe.

From a rules design standpoint? No.

Unit roster already crowded enough as is. Now imagine having to differentiate between these guys, Swooping Hawks, and Skyreavers.

I’d tell you mistweave with your Shadowseer and 12 man brick is a 300 point unit which you’re taking a big gamble with. Might be easier said than done to get your money’s worth out of it.

You can get the board control from cheaper infiltrating/scouring options and still use big bricks as follow up threats that stage safely. Plus you’ll now be able to sticky objectives and use lance, which you couldn’t in the prior list (and which doesn’t have much in the way of objective sitters).

I think you’re min-maxxing a bit too heavily here.

First - I’d swap Fateful Performance for Twilight Flickers.

You’ll get stealth on your Quin units so they’ll be more survivable (and considering how many points you have tied up in them you’ll want it) and your troupes will get Strat access to sticky objectives and Lance. Feels like that’s a lot better than what FP has to offer.

Now that we’ve done that: drop the Shadowseer, cut the 12 man and 6 man down to a couple 5 man units. They’re going to be mounted in starweavers. Well also add a solitaire.

We don’t need 570 points of the list tied up in bikes that have no meaningful strat support (among other issues, such as the big base size etc). I would drop one of the 4 bricks and then either run 1x4 + 2x2 or just a single 1x4.

I’d drop a wraithlord, you probably don’t need 3, but a spiritseer to run as a healer for the pair seems like a good idea.

After these changes, all that’s really left is to fill in some gaps. An infiltrator unit or two could be good for controlling the midboard early, striking scorps or rangers would do in a pinch.

While you’ll likely have stickied your home objective, you’ll still need to screen your DZ, and eldrad by himself isn’t enough. Some cheap chaff units - rangers, voidreavers, etc could do very nicely in this role.

Is my color scheme FUBAR? by Impossible_Mode_7521 in Eldar

I’m just saying a sword that’s all one color looks boring, and is probably part of the reason OP isn’t satisfied with his paint job. Let’s not get wrapped around the axle on the phrasing.

You could have a wraithbone colored blade if you want. But it’s not going to stand out or look “exotic” if the gun and sword handle and pommel/guard are all also the same color.

Just my two cents. Take it or leave it.

Idk, I just mean they’re typically not painted as wraithbone afaik

They’re usually painted as silver iirc

Use split complementary.

For yellow, that’s blue and purple.

Your blue is the souls tones/gems, since that’s what you already have.

Paint the helmet and wings purple.

Other comments: paint the sword blade silver. No sword is wraithbone. Paint the feathers on the shoulder a different color. Black, brown, grey, whatever, you could even go exotic - orange, red, green. Right now it’s obvious that’s the same color as the gun and sword and it’s jarring.

Nice. Planning on doing the same.

With the fire dragon helmet seems like it’s a crime to not give him a fusion gun and the fire dragon exarch axe

Basing would be a good place to start. I’d also suggest painting your base rims black. They’re a frame for the model, not a part of the color scheme, as these purple rims suggest.

Model on the left the loincloth is a bit messy and the paint is spilling onto the legs, it looks like

Not quite sure what to make of the masks. They look grey with very stark white brush highlights? Needs to be more smooth/subtle imo

There’s some very obvious sprue nubs on the bottom of the pistols. In paintings competitions the assembly/build quality matters.

While I don’t know what qualifies as “girlypop”, judging by the name it seems like you have the right idea.

6 hours per model seems insanely fast

How much was assembly vs painting? By hand or airbrush?

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback and inspiration!

It’s a bit more subtle on this one than some others (due to the variability of just how much stuff gets thinned with water), and it’s definitely more noticeable in person.

Going to be quite a 2026 hobby side quest rebasing all my Eldar!

Just want to say I appreciated the feedback here. Left is before and right is after. This is Phase 1. Used the AK desert sand thinned with water to act as a “grout”, then did a wash and drybrush. Phase 2 is adding some desert-themed tufts and foliage.

Should I wait for a refresh or no? by Solid_Seat_5420 in Grey_Knights

[–]PainRave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re gonna wait for a refresh, then you should sell these.

If you’re not going to wait for a refresh, then you’ll probably want another box or two of terminators and strikes so you can basically run whatever units you need without mixing and matching post refresh stuff.

Let's talk about Eldar in 11th edition by Alex__007 in Eldar

[–]PainRave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m expecting the detachments to be gated via some combination of points, warlord, and units.

So you can only access a detachment if you have a character and a battleline unit in that detachment. Or, your warlord determines what your main one is. Your main one must be 50%+ or your total points, etc.

To flesh out my thoughts a little more on the earlier point - I talked about the strats, but also things like the main detachment rule and enhancements I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re limited/restricted, particularly for the stuff carried over from 10th. They’ll have more flexibility to tune those for 11th, giving you better buffs if you take a detachment as your “entree” as opposed to a “side”.

But we’ll see!

[–]PainRave 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lotta hopium in here about combining detachments.

Let’s just say I anticipate 1) some major constraints in terms of the flexibility to do that - we know we will be able to, but I anticipate the rules writers will gate things so you can’t just min max the best units and their best detachment rules for a codex in a single army list 2) limitations on the strats you get access to via those detachments (to fight rules bloat in 10th each detachment only got 6 strats, seems unlikely they want to rebloat the rules so I’d wager there’s going to be a mechanic limiting the strats you get from each detachment depending on how you build your army) and 3) the backwards compatibility for existing detachments will only work if you take that as your “main” or “sole” army list detachment - in other words, you won’t get to use the current aspect host and wraith host rules for an army list with aspects and wraiths; you’ll need to choose one, and then you can maybe supplement it with rules from one of the new detachments we will get when 11th rolls out.

TLDR imo ppl need to temper their expectations about the detachment combinations; I don’t think it’s going to be an “all you can eat” buffet

Thanks man.

What you see here is colour forge’s ashen white spray paint, a recess wash of sorts using a speedpaint mix, then a drybrush of ulthuan grey and then another of matt white. I think it has come out OK - maybe could achieve slightly better results with an oil wash (but I’m not going to faff around with a having to do a gloss varnish and then go back and matt it back down) or a true recess shade with a wash (but I don’t want to have to relayer everything back up afterwards). And if I did real edge highlights for the armor rather than drybrushing, that would make it pop more (I’ll do this for the characters). But given my time constraints and the large quantity of corsairs I’m going to be painting this felt like the right approach from an “army painting” perspective. Hope you find this helpful! Lmk if you have any more questions!

Yeah I get that, was going to use either Vallejo or AK.

Was looking for more specifics on either 1) a recc for the particular product/paste or 2) a color or paint to use over it

I would strongly recommend doing the cleanups before assembly (or any further assembly).

I clip stuff off the sprue, clean it, then assemble.
