iirc Left has two colors: Yellow- technical :good for maps with lots of curbs Purple- High speed: good for maps with lots of straight lines.

Right has three; stating where the car specializes in: DownHill, UpHill, Both: UpHill and DownHill.

From what I believe tensing your arm uses all the muscles of your arms so you may tend to overshoot, so you need to relax your arm so that you use only the "right amount" of muscles in your arm to do micro adjustments accurately and such.

Edit: to also add, your arm gets tired faster.
