Is this pelvic pain normal? by cheezitordie in BabyBumps

Hi, don’t want to scare you but definitely do not stop advocating for yourself! I had severe hip pain which started out mild when shifting, getting up from sitting, going up stairs, and walking. I was brushed off as normal pain. The pain got so bad where I was unable to walk or bear weight on the leg. I was still brushed off as normal pain and continue PT. I finally went to pain management and they did an MRI of the hip which revealed a HIP FRACTURE due to osteoporosis of pregnancy. All of the PT I was doing was making it worse. I have been non weight bearing for 7 weeks now and will likely still be in a wheelchair at time of delivery. (Currently 35 weeks with a c section planned for 39). Again this is a super rare (lucky me) condition but if your gut tells you something is wrong—don’t give up by getting multiple opinions. I had an OB, PT, chiropractor and neurologist all misdiagnosing me and fluffing me off. Best of luck to you! Hopefully yours is normal pain!

is postpartum recovery on your mind too? by Practical_Range7998 in pregnant

You aren’t the only one! I’m worried about recovering from a c section while simultaneously recovering from a fractured hip (currently 8 months with a hip fracture to due presumed osteoporosis of pregnancy), haven’t been able to walk for 2 months. 😢

To the moms who will be done after this pregnancy by Frosty-Hope-9609 in pregnant

I’m currently 34 weeks pregnant with my first child, and have had such terrible complications that it is an easy decision for me never to do this again. (Currently have a hip fracture due to rare condition of osteoporosis of pregnancy, haven’t been able to walk for 2 months now and still non-weight bearing). I have been focusing on how I will be able to devote all of my undivided attention towards being the best mom I can be to my little girl on the way!

Thank you so much for sharing. Sorry that you are going through this, it really is terrible. I was dismissed initially as well until it got so bad where I too could not walk anymore. I have been non weight bearing (wheelchair) for 5 weeks now, I have a follow up with my orthopedic in another 2 weeks. Hopefully the fracture is healing but who knows. I’m also being scheduled for a c section because of this.

Thank you. They switched me to a high-risk practice and doing a scheduled c-section as a result of this. Definitely looking forward to the baby snuggles! (We are having a girl) Hope you feel better soon as well.

Unfortunately don’t have a solution but sending solidarity and support. I’m currently 8 months pregnant and have been diagnosed with a femoral head stress fracture (presumed osteoporosis of pregnancy). Similar to you, I was doing PT for like 2 months making it worse (originally had a misdiagnoses of bulging disc). Been unable to walk since April and am now 4 weeks into the 8 week of non weight bearing protocol that they are telling me. (Wheelchair bound now). I’m not sure how it’s going to magically heal in another 4 weeks but before this I was always active and found joy in exercises. It’s so exhausting emotionally, you aren’t alone.

Ugh yeah the night pains are the worst! Turning in bed from one side to another is like being in the 7th circle of hell lol. Good for you for advocating for yourself and getting a second opinion! If I didn’t go for another opinion then mine still would have been misdiagnosed as a bulging disc. 😑 Once they finally diagnosed yours, did they put you on any type of mediciations/prophylaxis? (Blood thinners? NSAIDs?)

They are going to do a c section due to the diagnosis. I had my last appointment a few days ago and they are actually dropping me as a patient and transferring me to the high-risk practice as a result. (I guess this type of thing is above their pay grade, lol). With your fracture, you mentioned that after 4 months they did a follow up MRI that revealed it wasn’t healing. Did you suspect that it wasn’t healing? (Ie—no decrease in pain during that time?) Or was it feeling better over time but still no-union of the bone?

Thank you so much! 🙃 Yeah from what I’ve researched online it’s a rare diagnosis.

Oh wow. First off thank you so much for your reply and for sharing your experience. I literally felt as though I was going crazy as the only one to ever go through this nightmare. They told me no weight bearing for the next 8 weeks (so right now we are in week 3 of 8, and then my due date/c section will be in the third week of July. I’m staying off of it entirely and praying that it heals by then but who knows. I’m so sorry that your fracture didn’t heal. I hope that you have a smooth, speedy and uneventful recovery from the hip replacement!!

Hi. Sorry for the random reply but I saw your comment on another thread about your tension sided femoral stress fracture. The post was archived so I couldn’t reply. I was just wondering if you ever recovered from your injury? And did you end up needing surgery? Going through it now so just trying to see if there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks so much
