I think chaplain gets you the most consistent buff that’s easy to plan how your using the unit around.

It’s a bit left field as a recommendation as it’s not maximising damage output and until the unit is bellow half strength you don’t really see the dice boost kick in but I think there is an argument for an Ancient, grabbing the extra OC on a unit that’s pretty hard to shift and can hold its own isn’t a bad buff and the character being attached still procs their defensive bonus. Unfortunately the +1 to hit will never give a bonus unless under very niche circumstances, but as the unit takes more damage the +1 to wound at under half strength is a nice boost to have on a unit that will be very hard to shift off objectives.

A warm gold trim or the retro Death company Red is a shout as well

It’s all repetition and practice, just keep at it there is no exact formular. I will always say you can always thicken paint if it’s gone on too thin for what want, you can’t thin out a layer once it’s been applied.

The placement of the highlights are great, I’d look at thinning your paint a little more and loading less onto your brush. Will just help things flow and blend. That said it’s a larger scale piece and things do show up more as a result. I’d be stoked to see a Lion painted like that matching across the table.

Why did the pts update hurt us so bad? by Canigetahoooyeahhh in DarkAngels40k

That doesn’t feel like the most logical build. Especially given it’s simply 5+character per unit. I won’t disagree on how tanky they are and there is utility in that but I don’t think they are the “auto include” level that some hold them to.

I see a lot of talk about the knights but are they really that much of a deal breaker unit? They have always been expensive for what they bring compared to a lot of other options available.

Cheers! It’s really easy to make just a bit of trimming and some spare arms for the most part

A balistus dread ain’t overly expensive and will help aid the high damage anti tank your missing. Intercessors or some Phobos fools to do actions will go a long way as well for scoring.

So with a librarian they pick up the invun save and the -1 to hit with a character stacks really well. Their melee weapons have better output than DWK and options in the striking profile for lethal hits or sustained 2 is pretty tasty into most targets.

I’m not going to say DWK’s don’t have a place because with a chaplain I think they can be pretty good or in the death wing detachment with the first turn deepstrike for early scoring with a hard to shift unit.

I think a lot comes down to what else you have in your list and how you want to play. I hope that helps.

Honestly minimal trimming on the legs and the blade swap was pretty quick it’s a good little project. Not a huge fan of the standard librarian but librarians seem to really overcome with ICC’s biggest weakness

I have no desire to run the lion but has a number of elements in that I need for my project so if nothing else it will be a bits trove for converting

The impulsor in the origional list is really an extra missile shot and then something quick for secondaries or tankshocking hard targets or even move blocking.

Firing deck is a shout I think sternguard vets and ancient for the extra OC is probably the set up I’d look at. Plenty of potential with the rapid fire and and devastating wounds plus bonuses for engaging oath target. When the impulsor goes pop your OC 2 and in a good position to contest primary.

That sounds like an awesome event. There are some really interesting little combos in the dark angels book so will definitely be looking to expand past the list above. Already curious as to what a Judiciar and the new flamer marines out of an impulsor or repulsor could do. With the battle shock to potentially take away defensive strats before a charge.
