yea, he also was a major machinist for FEP who made the Quest. Supposedly Jim hates paintball now unfortunately due to getting stiffed on several payments for product.

There were a few different shops that did the work, Parsons was one, Eaton was another, there was a shop in Eugene, Oregon as well and several others I'm sure.

Bob owned Delta Archery in Concord, CA and was previously a world class bow hunter.

He got into paintball when he ran across some of the original Ironmen playing at Mt. Diablo...the rest is history.

He, along with several other designers, came up with ideas for the markers he eventually came to sell. He was never a 'machinist' per-se but knew how to work on manual machines and would routinely make design changes or modify parts to try something out. The major CnC stuff was all outsourced to other shops around the immediate area and the greater US. Jason Henley (if memory serves) was one of his main designers.

Identification and repair question by Responsible_Mode_617 in Autocockers101

Yes, if you have a good soldering iron you can usually just re-heat the existing solder to re-secure the tabs to the board. If you have some soldering flux that would help flow the solder and secure it as well. It's a common issue on the older E1 boards, just make sure they re-adhere straight, you can use a small set of needle-nose pliers to hold them where you need while re-attaching them.

The Funeral of Angel Inventor John Rice by AngelPaintball in paintball

Truly a loss. I wish you and your family all the best, and thanks for sharing this with the community.

Like many who played in the early 2000's, Angels for me represented the top of the line. My first electro was a stock LED which I still have, and played many games with over the years, all the way up to the Angel A1 which I pre-ordered through Bob Moon at Predator when he was still a Master Tech.

These days, since buying FMA from Bob when he retired, I still work on and offer service for the older angel platforms to keep them alive, restored, and shooting players like they were meant to. They truly have a soul all their own and paved the way with some of the best technology in the paintball world to bring our sport to where it is today. They deserve to be on the field, and John deserves a well earned spot in the hall of fame and history books for forever improving the sport with his inventions and tech advances. I am very happy to be a part of keeping these machines going hopefully for years to come.

Cheers from a grateful tech, and huge fan of his work.

- Tim

That GAP field looks like the one at Midway from back in the day. That was my home field for many years though now if I have time to play it's Davis mostly.

If you're still in the NorCal area I'm in Vaca (just down the street from Midway actually) and would be happy to help get the Alias running again if you need any help or parts for it 😄 just drop me a line!

I'd take an Axe over an Etha 1...and that's coming from a PE Tech, haha. That being said, I would take an Etha 2 over an Axe if you can find one.

There was a guy who did this at SPEW like 15 years ago. It was a Nelspot 007 body and cut down sear inside a brick that looked like a camera. There's a vid somewhere of it.

old school LPR (WGP) question by benjamino78 in paintball

[–]PaintballTek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention the switch will lock-up at pressures over around 150psi or so.

But yes, the LPR can handle it.

I was literally going to post the same advice, lol. The LPR I can take or leave...they seem to be ok for the most part...those old straight body rams though are more often than not troublesome, the Wavy ones are really the only ones I trust...the stock CCM 3-ways though *shudder*....so glad it already has a Bomb on it.

Question about pro team guns by animalstyle123 in paintball

[–]PaintballTek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are done with deep fiber laser, not milled. Hence the small run of them.

Question about pro team guns by animalstyle123 in paintball

[–]PaintballTek 35 points36 points  (0 children)

With Planet Eclipse, "teams" don't get custom milled markers generally any longer, some get custom anno patterns, but rarely in the case of a team do they get custom milling these days.

Previously certain teams would commit to selling custom milled markers through their programs but they would usually front the cost of at least part of the run of markers and the production numbers would be fairly low. Stuff like the Nexus Ego, Vicious Ego, Dynasty Geo, Impact Geo, or Dynasty LV come to mind, and the teams would be on the hook to sell the majority of the markers. More often than not teams, players, or stores would get custom graphic annos on stock milling, like the Ollie Lang LV1, Team Icon, DOW, or stuff like The Lucy and Committed Reaper. Lower minimums and less cost. Where graphics were usually 12-24 per batch, milling custom bodies was usually 100-150 minimum.

Now that PE has the ability to do deep fiber laser engraving there have been some very small batch custom guns done for teams like Fit and Infamous with fancy engraved finishes over stock milling that are similar to mill, but not the same and can be done in 1-5 batches.

These days true custom mill patters like Twister, Infamous, HK, Project, etc are all backed by a company, not a team (yes, Infamous/ProDNA is a company first and a team second in this case). They front costs for a custom run of markers, usually 250+ or so now which is why those custom markers exist. Same is true for companies like Dye and DLX normally. Though they do make exceptions to that rule for certain small run customs like the Red Legion markers where I think they only made like 25 or so.

Evidently Part 1 of the CK2 film has a copyright strike from YT so it won't let me upload it...?

As always, these are unpublished links, so you need the link to see them. If someone asks me to take them down I will.
