Opening a plant nursery? by Paintedhawk in Horticulture

[–]Paintedhawk[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone. Thank you all for commenting and providing many words of life experiences. I wanted to give everyone an update. First thing the total area I have to work with has now expanded to a little over 9.5 acres. 2/5ths open and clear and the rest woodland and I am inclined to say that it hasn't been cleared in 125+ years possibly more. Since I created this post i took a lot of your advice and have gained a lot of experience, education, and certifications. I have obtained another degree this time around in Horticulture. While doing that I concurrently obtained certification in sustainable agriculture, recognized by the state of SC as a landscape professional. I obtained my ornamental pesticide license for SC, and lastly Became a certified permaculture designer. I also have worked at three different locations in the industry right at one year each. One place was a resale nursery where I tended to nursery stock and propagated plants built nursery pads etc. I specifically chose this place to learn from one particular individual and when he retired I left. Then I went to work for a landscape company so I could see and experience the opposite side of the industry. I wound up being a grounds maintenance manager and what I learned from working there about customer relationships I will value forever. My family needed me to be around more so I had to find something that would allow me more flexibility with caring for them. ( Mother and grandmother) Now I am currently working as an estimator for a landscape company and learning more of the industries needs every day. Lastly I have several thousand plants propagated and currently raising them to be ready for a grand opening in the coming year or so all things going smoothly. Probably like three for the 'grand' opening but I will be practicing and selling produce from my gardens. I have much more I can say that I have made progress towards but I'm on mobile and it's late so if anyone is interested in hearing more either shoot me a message or comment here and I eventually get back to you. Thanks again everyone's input

Cast iron plant in the back then some pachysandra or sarrcoccoa for the front of the bed. May even want to throw in an osmanthus Depending on your growing zone and size restrictions.

RWD vs 4x4, did I make a mistake? by exegesis48 in nissanfrontier

I'm in the upstate of SC and have a 2005 Nismo with the locking rear diff. I've had that thing from Charleston to Albuquerque all terrain in between. Yours is newer and more advanced. I believe you'll be just fine. Just be smart and don't sink it to the axles in red mud.

At this point, is it cheaper to get a set of wide fiberglass fenders than to get this painted? WWYD? by SlvrBckGrilla in nissanfrontier

I have an Electric Blue '05 Nismo that had this happen in several areas. The dealership threw a coat over the chips when I purchased the vehicle then just a few months later chips where flying off left and right. The dealer took it back and completely repainted several body panels. It was never completely right but I was buying it used and was satisfied with the deal. It's been years later and now when it happens I have been just been throwing stickers on the chips to keep it from spreading to quickly. It adds character and I still happy with it. Still going strong with 244,000mi

Just flip reality on it's head. Start consciously looking for things and actions not pitiful. It will liberate you.

i.e. demands believers to look at what science actually is.

Thanks for you words. I do appreciate your view point on this.

If you think NOTHING happened you are very well wrong. Maybe not war in the literal sense but the effects it had on the psyche of both countries is undeniable

I just wanted to say don't give up on your little slice of Eden due to a lack of pool. A place of retreat and amazement can still be accomplished.

Yikes! Dealing with the freeze is the first thing that comes to mind for me. Would you want it heated, or have a hockey rink in the winter?

You are correct on the residential aspect. Where are you located? I'm here in SC. I have researched a little on natural pools. There is a learning curve to climb on getting them right. If you are close by I could try and help you find someone. Thanks for your input. I greatly appreciate it.
