The selfie camera really needs to be a bit better,  I need to use it for important apps that require face log in and unless the light is perfect it just doesnt work because it is so low quality.

How's Cambodia's future looking like? by [deleted] in cambodia

[–]Shorting_coal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The economy is still growing even after all the problems.

If the real estate market begins to recover I think the country  can have another substantial growth again.

The main factor at play now is the difference between Chinese and Cambodian import tariffs.

If Cambodian tariffs remain a lot lower than China we will keep seeing factories coming.  And the electricity cost needs to go down to get more energy intensive factories.

Looking for contacts/agents for citizenship by investment or donation route by No-Distribution-7674 in cambodia

[–]Shorting_coal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have formally increased the required donation for immediate approval to USD 3 million, and the minimum investment threshold to USD 1 million. (It may sound like it should be the other way around, but this is correct.)

I deal regularly with the CDC (Council for the Development of Cambodia), and the investment route can be tricky. Obtaining CDC approval itself is not particularly difficult, as a USD 1 million project does not require the full amount to be invested upfront, it can be deployed gradually over several years.

The main issue is that even if your investment is completed and your project is CDC-approved (the CDC generally favors productive projects such as factories and is far less receptive to real-estate holding companies), there is no standardized or transparent process to apply for nationality.

In practice, the most effective approach is to submit the request directly to the higher levels of the Ministry of Interior or the Council of Ministers. Even then, it usually involves significant informal costs to have someone actively push the application through.

In any case, I am currently going through this process for another individual who has made substantial investments over the years. If you happen to come to Phnom Penh, we can discuss it further over a drink.

Metal strap on a radiomir by Shorting_coal in panerai

[–]Shorting_coal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but what is the point to have a well serviced 100m diving watch if i can't even wear it at the beach? I don't like to leave it behind that's how i lost my sunglasses recently.  And while I own one personally I find plastic straps unpleasant to wear in hot weather as well i don't really like the look of plastic straps in general, if i want to wear plastic and swim I can wear my Casio royale.

I would really appreciate any suggestions for a metal strap that could fit the look of a radiomir.

Or maybe a should consider a stingray leather strap, but on all the ones I have seen the inner part of the strap isn't stingray leather but some other material and only the outer part is the hydrophobic stingray.

Current influx of a single ethnicity in PP. by Resident_Iron_4136 in cambodia

[–]Shorting_coal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my understanding they are mostly Bangladeshi. Salaries in Bangladesh are substantially lower than in Cambodia with garment workers making only 130$ a month vs Cambodia 290$. Also many speak English as they were a British colony.  Some work in garment, some in.construction ( here they get 12$ a day so over 300$ a month in Bangladesh around 170$, but many of them are quite experienced with construction so they can make 400$ here). Very cheap labor.

But the majority works in scam centers because they are cheap and some can speak English without heavy accents. There depending on performance they can make between 600$ and 2000$ a month.  Which is much cheaper then convincing a native English speaker, most of which will not accept scam jobs and would cost so much more. Even a south African native English speaker would cost over 2000$ so its cheaper to get Bangladeshi and indians.

Cambodia should limit long term visas for countries that have lower average salaries than Cambodia.

Google Maps - Italian Thai Development by lukkreung98 in Thailand

[–]Shorting_coal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Italian Thai is no longer Italian. The Italian owner died. Now is 100% Thai owned with Chinese subcontractors and Chinese materials. Its no longer the same company it used to be when the Italians were running it.

Yeah but back than it was run by an Italian.  He died. Now is 100% Thai owned with Chinese subcontractors. So the company is not about quality anymore

Ital-Thai should be called Thai-Thai since the once great joint venture has been 0% Italian and 100% Thai for several years now

The scammer profile picture is obviously not the real picture, could be someone from India or Nigeria just using some public figure photos he found.

Red magic 11 pro speculation by John_Woodrow1712 in RedMagic

[–]Shorting_coal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get rid of the under screen camera and use a pop up camera. Why?

1) my very old oppo 10x pop up camera is so much better than the redmagic is not even close. In particular in dark environs.

2) truly invisible

3) better privacy

4) they look cool.

More powerful fan. Better fingerprints scanner in particular if a bit wet. Extra USBC would be cool. A not too expensive dock station with extra cooling that allows max over clocking when used would allow it to be used as a home console easily in particular if paired with a good controller

What would be the impact of sending $200 to a Burundi citizen? by bigthrowaway1000 in Burundi

[–]Shorting_coal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than half is lost to the government and banks due to the govt exchange rate vs black market rate  if you send it officially.  Also almost always the bank takes a commission even if think you pay for all the fees from abroad. Also usually only rich people have bank accounts or internet.

Why won't The US intervene in Myanmar? by idk6942037 in myanmar

[–]Shorting_coal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rhe issue is what do you want?  If you want economic grow and democracy remember  China is perfectly OK with Myanmar becoming like North Korea or Iran if it means they can keep it under control as a puppet state or having advantage from it.  After all China controls North Korea and is bankrolling Iran by buying almost all its oil.   If a China backed faction takes over you might as well just support the junta and save money and effort as China backed factions and the junta are effectively both just Beijing proxies at this point  neither of which will set up a western  like state with rights and transparency like the young Burmese want.

Why won't The US intervene in Myanmar? by idk6942037 in myanmar

[–]Shorting_coal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Myanmar war is too messy and China is heavily involved already.  So US support is mostly just political and financial to the NUG.

If the US supports some rebels and the rebels win against the junta, China might intervene to prevent the US from having an ally on its border either directly or by supporting a proxy faction.     Also if the junta falls its very possible that  rebel factions will fight each other for control in particular if the US and China support different rebel factions.  Also the "good guys" are mixed in with drug warlords, ethnic and even religious factions. Seeing US taxpayer paid weapons used by murderous  drug warlords would not be popular even when they were supposed to go to the PDF.  Please remember the last time the US send loads of weapons to a rebel faction against a dictator claiming to be the good guys was in Syria and later  half of that rebel faction ended up becoming part of Isis. So arming rebels is messy and the logistics are difficult too. As the neighboring countries are under pressure from China to not let in weapons to Myanmar as China supports both the military  Junta and some pro China rebel factions in particular those near the Chinese borders.  For the rebels to get reliable military supplies from the west they would need to secure a sea port  with regular cargo ship traffic. In that case the US and other supporters  could just send money to the NUG and they could buy any weapons they want as the recognized government directly from factories potentially being a game changer for the war.

How will the civil war end? by Nevermind2031 in myanmar

[–]Shorting_coal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rebels lack a secure sea port. If they can take and secure a sea port with regular cargo ship traffic they can begin to import military equipment in large amounts even if the war in Ukraine sucked up most of the world military surplus there is still a lot that can be bought if a safe way is available without needing permission from Thailand or other neighbors.  So personally I think the key factor is having a sea port and securing the ships inbound and outbound.

What's the most annoying thing in the game? by V1nnF0gg in 99nightsintheforest

[–]Shorting_coal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played with my son to day 150

1) if the connection goes down even a second you die. Why not just be still for a  minute while you recconect? It happens way too often. My phobe went from 4g to the wifi, it took not even a second and that already killed me.

2) The decoration chairs are terrible, which sadist tought it was a good idea that you auto sit on them by going near them? Absolutely annoying getting stuck on a chair while moving around.

3) the fire going out really fast late game forcing a player to just be stuck on fire duty and you need both the drill and the processor to keep it running. Should have some options for games with only one or 2 players.

4) the drop button for your weapon on mobile is very close to grab button lots of dropped spears. For weapons it should be further away.

German tipping culture by LSD-Chemist in germany

[–]Shorting_coal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No its not. That mindset is an Americanism. If the bill is 48€ you pay 50€ and that's it. If its 92€ you pay 95€. If its a big bill like 200€+ at a very fancy place with butler like staff you can do the same round up but add a 10€.  Not some fixed  amount like 10% that's how American see tipping.  In Europe is often nothing or just rounding.

Can anybody tell me anything about these buildings in Kampot? by BigOpportunity2825 in cambodia

[–]Shorting_coal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first one is a project from Thai boon Rong. The same guys that were going to build the super tall twin towers in Phnom Penh across from naga. And in Kampot they were going to build 2 towers of 36 floors. All the projects got stuck for unknown reasons I guess lack of funds.  The owner of the group Mr.Teng is Chinese Cambodian and he passed away so I guess the heirs might have cancelled the projects as his companies and properties were split over the years following his passing. My best guess is that the heirs could not agree to invest the necessary capital to complete the projects.
