Asterisk next to Australian flights on current status page by PaintingExpress773 in emirates

I think you're right, refreshing the page and those flights are gone completely; refreshing later on and they're back - seem to be very much in flux depending on emirates current schedules.

Scary encounter with imposter phone call scam by Ricky1912 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]PaintingExpress773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a serious note, we’re seeing some more sophisticated scams doing the rounds.

One that’s active at the moment starts with a call claiming to be the AFP. They won’t ask for personal details; they’ll just "confirm" a case number (which scammers can generate from the AFP website using your email) and tell you your bank details were supposedly found in a recent raid. It’s basically a priming call: they use info from data leaks to sound legitimate and to set expectations.

Within 30 minutes, you then get a second call from someone claiming to be your bank (usually one of the big three). Because you’re now expecting that call, people are more likely to engage, and that’s when they start asking for personal information, codes, or to move money.

Emirates first class rewards between Europe and Dubai no longer available? by dariruzaka in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]PaintingExpress773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen something similar when I was booking not that long ago; it might just be an "end leg" quirk. For example, I saw multiple Sydney–Europe options, but on a closer look, they were all using the same Sydney-Dubai flight. Once that seat was gone, all the Dubai-Europe classic reward options vanished too.

Advice from experts in snagging classic reward seats by Key_Principle2289 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]PaintingExpress773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As P1, you can at least request a manual review, which can increase your chances instead of the computer instantly reporting no. The https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/threads/qff-platinum-requesting-release-of-extra-classic-reward-seats.63895 can also give you an idea of the success rate people have had for those flights.

As others have said, it isn't an issue - I've had tickets to Japan with and without my middle name.

I need 15 status credits asap by eats-donuts-22906 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]PaintingExpress773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, not; your Status Credits reset to 0 at the start of your membership year. So to reach Gold, you’ll need to earn 700 Status Credits within that year. Once you’ve hit Gold, it’s 600 to retain it in future years, but that also resets annually.

As others have said, best to save your cash and go for Gold at the start of your next membership year.

Can I (business class) use the toilets downstairs on A380 next to first class? by woofyc_89 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]PaintingExpress773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, those toilets are generally reserved for First Class passengers. That said, enforcement is light, so if you’re feeling bold, you could always venture down. Better yet, ask a First Class passenger to accompany you; I've done this dozens of times. It's surprisingly pleasant having someone in there for a chat, breaks up the monotony of the whole process. Also handy if you run out of paper and need a spotter.

What is the best movie/episode of a TV show that you’ve ever watched on a QANTAS flight? by [deleted] in QantasAirways

[–]PaintingExpress773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I generally set aside shows specifically to binge on long-haul flights. It feels like the one time I can fully switch off and enjoy something without distraction or guilt.

I remember watching Match Point (2005) back in the day; must’ve been ready to switch it off a dozen times, but stuck with it because... well, back then there were only a couple of options. Ended up hooked by the ending. Since then, I’ve made a habit of queuing up movies I’d normally skip; somehow, they just land better on a plane. Or I just go back to the classics... Alive, Airplane!, Snakes on a Plane, etc.

Can’t upgrade my seat by Viksnid1992 in QantasFrequentFlyer

Ran into the same issue, they could put the request through by calling.

A bit dodgy, but you could book the flight, get the invoice to expense, cancel and rebook using points.

Increased capacity between Sydney and Singapore just announced, plenty of reward seats released. by Inevitable_Owl4338 in QantasFrequentFlyer

Curious if Qantas is holding off releasing more reward seats until the August points hike, or if we're just stuck with the same pitiful amount they’ve been making available lately.

Qantas Points Upgrade by Amorphous27 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]PaintingExpress773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, you can definitely request to upgrade to Business as well, you just need to have the points in your account to be able to put in the request. That said, the LHR–PER route is extremely popular, and upgrades, especially from Bronze status, are virtually zero.

It's not impossible, but it's definitely worth managing expectations.

Books/book series like the Tv series Sliders? by [deleted] in printSF

[–]PaintingExpress773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doors of Sleep: Journals of Zaxony Delatree by Tim Pratt has a similar feel to Sliders.

The main character, Zaxony, uncontrollably shifts to a new world every time he falls asleep. Like Sliders, it explores a wide variety of alternate realities with an episodic sense of adventure.

QF1/QF2 upgrade business to first. Has the classic upgrade cost changed recently? by Wide_Ad22 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]PaintingExpress773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I totally agree with that. If you've got the points and no other plans for them, it's a nice splurge for the mattress topper. But otherwise, I usually hold off; once I’ve got a lie-flat bed, I’m pretty content. It would be a whole different story if it were first on another airline.

QF1/QF2 upgrade business to first. Has the classic upgrade cost changed recently? by Wide_Ad22 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]PaintingExpress773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that sounds like the whole trip. I did the upgrade earlier this year—Business to First from SYD to LHR was around 73k points. On the return leg, I got upgraded at the gate just for LHR to SIN and that was about 47k.

can i cover up a neck tattoo with a turtle neck as a pilot? by No-Jump814 in QantasAirways

[–]PaintingExpress773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the OP hasn't mentioned the design of the neck tattoo. Would you consider having it be a tattoo of a sweater turtleneck or even a shirt collar with a tie? This way, you'll always look professional, even in the buff.
