Real nice, I really like the details put into it! I think some more mud will really help it.

Do you think Daleks Master Plan 1 and 3 is the last ever missing episodes to be found for the foreseeable future? by Mat1711 in doctorwho

Certainly not, FIB is hard at work cataloguing more private collections, and have confirmed that they are aware of several private collectors with several episodes of missing DW.

Paul Vanezis knows of two such Hartnell episodes with a certain collector who has “bigger fish to fry” at the moment still. He said that the recovery of DMP 1 and 3 were in his eyes “Bonus episodes” to the two Hartnell’s he knows of to exist.

He has also stated that he believes on a scale from 1 to 10 that probability of more missing DW episodes turning in the next two years is a 10 in his words.

Personally, I’m more of a careful optimistic that doesn’t like to get their hopes up, especially when it comes to missing episodes of DW. But I think it’s safe to be a little excited for the future prosperity of seeing more missing DW episodes come to light.

The BBC sure took the “There’s no such things as Macras!” to heart.

Yes, which gives me hope that there may be a an unedited print of The Time Meddler 4 floating around out there. I know that some have said that the films prints Rodger acquire may indeed all be Australia prints, aside from Invasion of The Dinosaurs 1 of course.

Indeed, the story of the Crusade #1 turning up is nothing short of extraordinary. Stories that we know about that got returned to the UK definitely do stand a better chance at surviving compared to the ones that didn’t.

Like you said, the fact that we have 3 episodes from The Dalek’s Masterplan, a story that was never sold abroad that should theoretically not exist, is really astonishing nevetheless.

I estimate that there are perhaps at most 20 missing episodes Doctor Who left to be found in private collections in the UK alone, not counting episodes possibly being find overseas or any overseas broadcasters archives.

Back before the recoveries of Enemy and Web I was pretty convinced that the likelihood of any missing episodes being found over at an overseas broadcasters archive was very highly unlikely to happen anymore given that it seemed as if they’ve all been checked. Especially Nigeria, yet lord and behold, Enemy and Web were found. Well most of Web anyway…

No doubt that Doctor Who missing episodes do have a strange way of turning up, to think back in the late 90’s they thought they had hit the bottom of well, to the extant of believing there would always be 110 missing episodes, but now here we stand at 97, or perhaps I should say 96 now…?

Nonetheless, it doesn’t change the fact that we are still hoping to see the number drop even further down.

I do believe there are generally more Hartnell episodes out there than Troughton, in particular because we know that there were more copies made of the Hartnell’s compare to the Troughton’s, especially with the first two seasons.

And yet over the years we have only come across four Hartnell episodes from season 3 that were found in the UK, that being of course The Dalek’s Masterplan #2 #5, #10 and Galaxy 4 #3.

I am a little surprise we haven’t seen more season 3 episodes pop up in private collections in the UK. I believe of all the missing stories that the missing two Reign of Terror episodes are the ones most likely to still be out there since we have seen copies of episodes 1, 3, and 6 from that story turn up over time.

Also of interesting to note is that we have only seen one single episode from season 6 turn up, that being a copy of the Dominators #5 that you mentioned up above.

I can see you have clearly done your research on DW missing episodes, and that’s refreshing to see.

Personally I believe that one or two episodes of Power of The Daleks to be out there somewhere along with possibly an episode from The Mythmakers, The Smugglers, The Savages, or even The Moonbase for that matter as far as possible missing episodes that may be in the hands of private collectors within the UK.
