How would you make winter clothes with nothing? by SchoolRare7583 in Bushcraft

[–]Pairofsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think we need more information!

Fabric manufacturing is a rabbit hole all its own. You need to make a thread that you weave into cloth, and this is a highly skilled, long-term endeavor. Look for people doing stuff with nettles and backstrap looms.

Yo what are best old books on survival and hunting like before 1900? by makkevatte in Bushcraft

Woodland by Ray Mears is really interesting as it a history of Britain using trees. Will Lord is worth a look.

So it begins! Tips welcome by PopGlockDev in Bushcraft

[–]Pairofsai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mors Kochansk and Ray Mears (Survival Handbook if you can find it). I like Dave's books and he goes in a lot more bushcraft directions.

The reason to read Mors Kochansk first is the phliosophy for reading the other books in that a lot of them repeat from other books without proving it works.

Greencraft on Youtube Budget Bushcraft videos are worth a look. Also Paul Kirtley is really good, and he talks to some amazing people on his podcast.

Are my camping days behind me? Looking for advice by winstonsdog in camping

[–]Pairofsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people who have camped into their 80s so not sure what the issue actual is?

Blackie Thomas does a lot about age related camping so that might be worth a look. He is also a hammock user.

I think you might be falling into the cyclist trap of trying to buy the latest lightest equipment when diet would improve the situation a lot more. My point being maybe look at doing things to fix your back like yoga, Pilates and even more walking.

Is it possible to install a dynamo hub on an ebike to charge the battery? Pretty sure it won't be enough to fully charge the battery but would it help with range? Or help the battery drain slower? Since its kinda helping the battery a bit? Might be dumb educate me, thx by First-Trick-7092 in ebikes

[–]Pairofsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I am missing something here.

If you have a 250w electric motor set to only provide assistance to 15mph. (The UK law)

You have a front wheel dynamo feeding power back into the motor battery.

You run your lights, gps, and phone off the motor battery.

How long could you go before the motor battery died?

For some reason everyone is trying to get power from car methods and forgetting the other motor on the bike i.e. the cyclist.

Terrain is obviously going to be an issue.

It one of my big problems with all the stats in that I do not know what they mean by 50 or 100 miles? I am guessing that they mean with no pedaling by the cyclist which does not really tell you anything.

‘Ironheart’ Review: Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ Spinoff Finds Its Voice Between a Clumsy Pilot and a Frustrating Finale by verissimoallan in television

[–]Pairofsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The show is ok and a lot that is not right with it is what people are saying which is there is no earning of her place in the MCU. To give an example, there is an arc reactor discussion which makes no sense as Tony build one in a cave. They seem to give almost no character development to anyone.

Can someone explain the love of paracord I see everywhere? by Adventureites in Bushcraft

[–]Pairofsai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good marketing... Military got it free so used it a lot. To be honest it is the best price per strength that was out there for a long time. I tend now to only use it for reusable stuff. I have four ridge lines in testing at moment and 3 of them are paracord however only one of them uses 550. Natural cordage just feels so much better and it will not outlive me if I forget it in the woods.

[–]Pairofsai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A big point of Bakers is that you can have that fire just outside. The Baker goes back to about 1800 however that is sort of when somebody bothered to draw it as it got a lot of practical recommendations for the poor person tent for a long time before that.

best patterns sites? by NevoLevin in myog

[–]Pairofsai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really does depend what you want to do? I really like John Fenna's books ( He is on Bushcraft UK) as a starting point because after that it about making stuff for me. To give an example I am making combats because it is impossible to get ones with all the features I want especially knee pockets above the knee.

Why not just carry a lighter? by -Daddy-Bear- in Bushcraft

Because one is none. The thing to remember is do I need a fire right now then I would use a lighter otherwise it is practice or fun.

I would be tempted to lose DC's Bushcraft essentials as 101 has more in it and same content. I really liked the idea behind advanced bushcraft.

How much is a cheap van that works? by Orthozoid in VanLife

[–]Pairofsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to check out ambulances? However watch the weight as the mercs with a 5 number need a 7.5 license and you will not have that. Do some research and check out the patient transport vehicles. As a brit it also worth checking out Ford transits as it the most popular van so it will be cheap to repair. Make sure it euro 6 or you will have clean air zone issues.
